Chip Shop Chip Dilemma.

MotherNaturesJournal · 04/11/2022 21:39

Hi Mums,
I’m sure it’s obvious I’m a nervous first time Mum but mortified that a well meaning Friend of mine was giving my 8 Month old a cuddle and then allowed him to eat the end of his (what I assume salty) chip shop chip, I never had any so no idea if it was very salty as I never had any, but concerned that it may cause issues for his little body. 🙃🙃 I’m probably being silly as He’s currently napping as normal after his Breastmilk, He’s due his routine evening Banana supper shortly which I’m guessing would counteract it with the Potassium, But just need other Parents opinions to ease my exhausted mind.

Thank you to those who gave me a decent answer. Much appreciated, and for those who sent arsy replies, do you not think I know I was probably be overreacting and silly ? I even said such in the Thread to begin with. I’ve not been replying defensive etc I just don’t appreciate being spoken down to by strangers, like you’ve never once got a flash of anxiety or overreaction etc. nobody is perfect, I just care so much about my Baby that I worry over the stupid things, it doesn’t happen often but when it doesn’t I realise it’s over the most dull of things. Give me a break.

Why are you engaging only with the posts that are telling you that you are overreacting and not to the ones reassuring you?

I’ve tried to engage with everyone, I’m new to this site, took me a while to find out how to make the thread in the first place. So my replies probably are all over the place

I'm sure he will be absolutely fine.

You really do need to try chip shop chips though, they are yummy!!!

ArcaneWireless · 04/11/2022 22:05

theotherwoman shurley no….

Greggs sausage roll 🤣

We got chips dunked in steaky gravy. 🥴

Theunamedcat · 04/11/2022 22:06

My daughter stole a teenagers chip at around the same age she has just finished university despite her propensity to steal food from strangers 😑

TheWayTheLightFalls · 04/11/2022 22:10

Please don’t worry, it’s absolutely fine.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/11/2022 22:10

Sure he did.

I didn't mean out of politeness or because of technical reasons. But posters have told you that it's all fine but you ignored all of that and instead started brawling.

Blocked · 04/11/2022 22:14

I really don't mean to be that awful poster ('how long have you suffered from anxiety OP' head tilt) and we all do worry a lot with our first babies! But please have a word with your doctor if you are feeling anxious a lot of the time about everyday things like this. Your baby will be fine.

If you're going to get defensive why even bother posting? Yes your child will be totally and irreversibly damaged by eating the end of one Chip.. Halloween Confused is that what you to hear? Because that's bollocks and you know it. Hard time in your life or not. 1 chip won't kill him

Harsh but fair !

BackOnTheBandWagon · 04/11/2022 22:17

Something I read which really helped me when I was getting hung up on things like salt intake or how much he was eating, was to look at what your baby eats over a week, not over a day. If it's generally healthy, within the guidelines and a sensible amount over the whole week then don't worry

DebbieDoesDoughnuts · 04/11/2022 22:21

I’m still confused about the 10pm banana supper.

This website is mad.

Azandme · 04/11/2022 22:24

I appreciate that you are concerned about the potential amount of salt on a tiny piece of chip (so highly unlikelyto be more than a couple of grains of salt, if any), whereas my initial thought was an eight month old having a routine banana supper every day sounds a bit repetitive at a stage when babies should be having a wide variety of foods. Fruit is only one of the five main food groups for babies, and of that, banana is only one fruit.

mydogsteppedonabee · 04/11/2022 22:25

It's fine... please don't worry xx

GoldIsMyBirthMetal · 04/11/2022 22:26

You are right salty chips are not great food for babies but morbidly it would take quite a long time of eating only salty chips to cause any/mild harm to an otherwise breast or formula fed baby.
In short, he’ll be fine.

ArcaneWireless · 04/11/2022 22:28

A banana supper up here would be a battered banana and chips.

I’d be cross if a bairn nicked my chip end when they had their own…

Thanks for making me feel even more stupid, cheers. 👍🏼 I’ve been through a hell of alot in my life to make me as overly caring the way I am.

Nobody made you feel stupid, they're just answering the questions that you posted

MilkToastHoney · 04/11/2022 22:32

Chips occasionally, absolutely fine, don’t worry.

Why are you waking your 8 month old up at 10pm to give them a banana every night though? That’s going to cause more food/teeth/unhealthy eating issues than the odd chip.

Some babies sleep better after a bedtime snack. Mine would wake up in the late evening and we'd try to feed them porridge or sweet potato mixed with breastmilk because it was supposed to make them sleep

With due respect, my response was factual. If it made you feel stupid, those are your feelings, which I’m not responsible for. You asked a question which I answered.

GinnyBee · 06/11/2022 17:40

The recommendation is less than 1g of salt per day, and a fun experiment is to actually measure out a gram of salt and you’d be surprised how much that is! I bake a lot of bread and after doing it for over 2 years now I’m still always blown away by the massive scoop I need to get 20g for the bread, it’s actually amazing. Your babe is fine 😊
