Have I given dd something too rich - major vomit incident yesterday......

dd is 6.5mo. She's loved her food since we started weaning at the beginning of January .... until yesterday.

For lunch at 11am she had avocado mashed with cream cheese - as usual she wolfed it down. However half way through her 3pm bottle she started to look uncomfortable and vomited the whole lot up.

She took a bit of food at tea - then again got very upset and vommed it all up (she looked very shocked the poor wee thing!)

I gave her water this morning but she was so hungry so I gave her a bottle and she seemed okay.

She has spent the day just girning and occasionaly doubling over as if in pain - no full out tears but little cries/moans

Do you think that avocado and cream cheese was too much too fast?

I am just offering water or milk today - and she wants to eat but then looks in pain again.

She had one sloppy poo yesterday but the rest have been fine though a bit stinkier than normal (sorry tmi!)
Any wise words>

Sounds like a tummy bug rather than too rich food to me.

Although, my kids never did get on with avocado. Too sticky. But does sound like a tummy bug.

Sounds like a bug. Esp if still in pain today. Keep her off any solids today, maybe start with a bit a dry toast to suck on when you think she is ready, or a bit of stewed apple.

Milk can irritate a sore tummy so don't be surprised if she honks a feed or two back up!

just tried some wettabix - she was ravenous but then it started to hurt so we stopped.
no vomit though
do you think i should keep her off nursery tomorrow?

just souds like a bug tbh
hopw she feels better soon, poor wee thing

fizzbuzz · 27/01/2008 15:55

Can't you try stuff like mash, bread and apple with no milk? This is what I did when dd had vommong bug.

NHS direct advice was to keep giving milk.....

she's just eaten some sweet potato and is happily playing with her bowl and spoon - and shrieking in delight! It is lovely to have her back to her happy wee self. Thanks for your help everyone
(but alas I will have to go to work tomorrow!)

Not if it's a tummy bug - your nursery will have an exclusion policy of 48-72 hours off after the last episode of vomiting/diahorrea (sp) sorry

meep · 27/01/2008 17:56

ooooooooo - just checked the policy - 24 hours at mine - been well over 24 hours unfortunately! And it is only my second week back at work and I don't think they'd be too happy with me if I was off so soon.
