When can I give my baby things like weetabix, scrambled/hardboiled egg, toast, and cheese?

He loves his food and has a go at almost anything, so when can he have (pureed or in pieces)

weetabix
scrambled/hardboiled eggs
toast/pitta
cheese
strawberries
kiwi fruit

?

From 6 months I would say but introduce things one at a time in case off allergies etc.

colditz · 20/01/2008 15:29

I personally wouldn't give strawberries or kiwifruit until after 1 year if you have allergies in the family, because they are both fairly allergenic fruits. If not, I'd give it all from 6 months and I wouldn't puree it either.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 20/01/2008 15:30

oh and I have another question: say if I were giving him toast, or making scrambled egg or eggy bread, do I use a little unsalted butter to fry them in/spread on the toast or what?

I wouldn't bother, no, not if you don't buy it already.

VanillaPumpkin · 20/01/2008 15:34

Ah, now I did go the unsalted butter route. We have the Lurpack spreadable one that I use for the dd's and we have Flora, though I have to confess I am not sure I still need to bother. Dd1 still has full fat milk and she is 4.10. It is just habit...

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 20/01/2008 15:37

We use diet margarine. The reason I said unsalted butter was because I thought everything had to be whole for a baby, like whole milk, full fat cheese etc

maybe I'm a bit confused.

Wondering now if olive oil could be better.

Agree with colditz about strawberry and kiwi, though I woudl hold off on these even if there are no allergies you know about, as they are very allergenic and can cause real probs.
All th eother things fine, and you dont need to puree. Perhaps worth introducing them slowly though, not all at the same time.

Ok, thanks for your advice, guys!

maragrine is generally very nasty stuff IMO

KatyMac · 20/01/2008 15:47

I agree with Piffle

If it doesn't go off (even eventually) should you be eating it

VanillaPumpkin · 20/01/2008 15:50

And it would be grey if they didn't colour it. Yuk!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 20/01/2008 15:56

lol, doesn't matter if I eat nasty low fat margarine though, I'm just concerned with what pfb eats!

Butter then, if it's that or mingy margerine!

KatyMac · 20/01/2008 16:05

Or a bit of olive oil?

KatyMac · 20/01/2008 16:06

For frying (I mean)
