9 mo finger food ideas

I'm running out of ideas for finger foods/BLW for my 9 mo DD who has recently decided she won't eat off a spoon and will only feed herself. I give her bread, egg muffins, veg sticks and general big holdable food, which she takes in a bit of. What I'm looking for are ideas for more filling foods that she can pick up and feed herself e.g. we recently had success with gnocchi, as she seemed to like picking up the smaller pieces. I'm still a bit wary of giving chunks as choking hazards but any tips/ safe examples would be welcomed! I try giving her mashed stuff but she hasn't got the hang of picking that up yet. Thanks so much.

I give my DS Tuna croquettes (mashed potato mixed with juice of a lime and a tin of tuna, made into finger shapes and rolled in breadcrumbs then baked in the oven until a bit crispy). Or omelette made with whichever veg I have, some herbs/spices and cheese.
Sometimes we have chunky fishy fingers with new potatoes and broccoli so he has a bit of a fish finger with a broccoli floret and I squash the new potato with some butter to make it more like a solid mash type texture.
Have you seen the Solid Starts website and/or app? You can search for almost any food type and they show you how to prepare it for safe feeding dependent on your child’s age. I’ve found it really useful.

I know people always say this but I just give my baby the same as what we are havin - pasta - fusilli is easier for them to hold, potato in various forms, noodles, bread, chicken, fish, prawns, all veggies/salad, and just let him have fun with it. Haven't had any success with rice or cous cous obviously but I can load a spoon and he tries it that way!

Look up turkey avacado patties on the Thriving Nest website, my 9 month old absolutely loves them and he can be slow to eat meat, I think he finds it too much hard work with no teeth but these are lovely and soft. I make a batch and freeze them while still raw so I can just throw them in the oven when needed.

Also, tuna and sweet potato burgers, I think the website is called mummy to Dex or something like that, really quick and easy to throw a batch together.

I've found the What Mummy Makes cookbook useful. Easy recipes designed to suit the parents too.

Why don’t you start letting her feed herself actual meals rather than just finger foods?

load the spoon and let her feed herself

my LO started to get a bit bored of just finger food around that age. She will also be developing the pincer grasp so will start picking stuff up inbetween her finger and thumb so now is the perfect time for her to practice self feeding with a spoon

Thanks so much everyone - lots of ideas I have been and will be trying out! I did have a bit of luck with her using the spoon on her own so hopefully once she gets the hang of that it will start to get easier!!
