Highchairs?

Am delurking in the hope of some sage advice...

My dd's highchair harness has broken and I rely on it a lot - I was just automatically going to get her another one and then realised that

a) I had no clue which one to get or what I should even be looking for

b) (after reading some threads on here) did she really need a highchair anyway?

Anyone care to weigh in?

how old is she?
we used DDS1's high chair now and he is nearly 4 but this is one that adapts to being a chair just a little higher that average IYKWIM

How old is she?

I only ever use highchair harnesses when out-and-about. I never use the harness in the highchair at home.

Mobeena · 18/01/2008 16:25

She's just turned one (on Wed). Still quite wriggly and only just pulling herself up to standing...

I think at 1 you still need a highchair. Why not just replace the harness? You may well be able to get spares from the manufacturers or service agent. Alternatively you could use reins clipped to the D-rings. Most highchairs have D-rings near the seat, and the reins have attachments for them. You put the reins on backwards for highchairs,s o the clip is in front.

just buy a new harness

Mobeena · 18/01/2008 16:30

I got it from my local freecycle network so I've no idea where it came from originally and the harness and rind have actually come out - I can't see how to re-thread it without taking the reins to pieces...

Agreee with the age question

If she is over 2 I would probably get a booster seat (e.g.t eh safety first one) which you can use to bring her to the table as she grows.

If she is younger go for the Ikea Antilop (tray is a seperate £3). Less than £15, everyone raves about it on here. A single piece of moulded plastic makes it the easiest chair to clean. If you don't like if £15 hasn't broken the bank.

Both options will fit in the boot of the car - even with a weeks worth of luggage too.

another vote for the ikea one - although I rarely fasten the harness for ds (15 months)

Mobeena · 18/01/2008 20:55

Her one at the moment doesn't have a tray or anything so if I don't fasten up - she's on the floor. Plus, we have bizaare folding up chairs for our dining table which collapse if you only perch on the edge of them.

I wish I'd saved more money...

we use the ikea one at my mil's.
we was given one from my sisters friend who no longer used it think its from babies are us!

SlightlyMadShrek · 18/01/2008 22:24

Honestly the Ikea one is fab.

I wanted £100 jobbie.
DP saw the recommendations on here for Ikea one so made me buy that. I only went along with him because money was short and I had every intention of proving him wrong and going out and buying the £100 one when we had a bit more cash. BUT I havn't looked back. I love the Antilop. Easy to clean, easy to use and portable to...it will go to France net year (DD3 may be a bit old for it then actually, but in prnciple it could go to France). The only downside it doesn't fold - but that isn't a problem for us.

YOu won't be able to use the boosters properly/safely on the foding chairs.
