when do you go from one puree a day to two?

when do you move to meat etc?

been weaning for 1 week abd few days now - once a day, one food a day: had baby rice, carrots, sweet pot and banana so far

also i mashed a banana and now suddenly realised it was rather lumpy...was that bad for lo?? he are it all no prob however

weaning kinda a non event - he just sucks on sppon and eats a bit and then reaches for spoon at end and cries when had enough

seem to eat with fairly little probs

but perhaps banana too early??

sounds like he's goiing great if he can handle lumps already, i'd ditch the purees forthwith and move onto mash. if he's six months then you can really get him going on finger food, what's on your plate (unsalted) etc etc. weaning doesn't need to be a big production number (if no allergies in family), really, just do what you want.

thanks tons!!! for message!!

but when do you up the number of meals a day?

how much should lo be having each time? a pot? a few spoons?

also more importantly when do you give meat? cheese? etc my mom keeps telling me he should be on meat and cheese now?!!

How old is he, bumbly? (And how are you doing?)

Aitch · 14/01/2008 19:43

och, it's none of your mum's business what he should or shouldn't be on... just take it easy, food's just for fun until they're one and all that. like habs says, how old is he?

virtually 6 months

meat and cheese are ok from 6 months. I started doing 3 tiny meals quite quickly (within 2/3 weeks) just so they were slotted into place at the times we had food already e.g. roughly 8am, 12pm and 5pm. I didnt really measure how much ds took - I offered some, he took some and stopped when it was finished/he'd had enough. I gave purees at first and introduces finger foods from about 6 months (started weaning at 5 1/2 months). He was doing mostly finger foods by around 8 months and so we stopped doing pureed food.

well like seona says, pretty much everythign's fair game from 6 months if you're not allergicky. peanuts, obv, and some people leave eggs til later.
it took me until about 10,11 months to get to a point where dd was regularly having three meals. partly because she preferred milk for breakfast and partly because i am really disorganised.
seriously, weaning seems like a huge deal when you're approaching it, but it lasts for such a short time and can be such a delightful stage in their lives, so my only real piece of advice would be to make a priority of enjoying it. and ignore your mum. hunker posted this on her blog at www.howbreastfeedingworks.com and i think it's So True.
"There is a fine line between recounting one?s experience and telling someone else to do the same thing, I think. Baz Luhrmann had it right, I think, in his song, Everybody?s Free (To Wear Sunscreen):

?Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it?s worth.?"
