Can you overfeed solids at start?

Paranoid first time mum here! DD is a week short of 6 months and I started her on solids this week. Was thinking of BLW but chickened out and am trying baby rice and some purees for a few weeks to get her used to the idea.

She's really keen (has been trying to grab food from us for weeks). One taste of baby rice and she grabbed the cup I'd made it in and downed it. We've only tried apple puree so far but she loves that too. I load the spoon up, she grabs it and feeds herself. I've not forced anything on her - she puts it all in her mouth herself- she's been having 2/3 tablespoons of puree and a tablespoon of rice (which I then mix with my milk) each day. I'm sure she'dlike/take more as she picks up the cups and chews them afterwards.

I've read that milk is still the best nutrition for her so I'm a bit worried that she'll cut back on it if I give her more to eat. She is BF and so far I've given her one side before each time of solids but I'm worried that she might cut back on how much she takes too quickly.

Should I just be guided by her or should I be going slow at this stage

Many thanks and apologies for being paranoid!

Most of it goes on the floor/the baby so don't fret unduly. They shouldn't overfeed but do start off with one meal a day to begin with, otherwise they can get windy and grouchy.

What is BLW?

Be guided by her.

And if she is grabbing things and trying to eat them try BLW (baby led weaning). It's so easy and babies love feeding themselves
