DS has started baby rice for the first time tonight and not sure i have made it up right - how thick should it be and how much should I try and give him in the first week?

you start off really thin -I suppose a bit like cream? and then go a bit thicker according to what your baby seems to like. Just a couple of spoonfuls at first is fine - you're introducing them to solid food not trying to pack them full of it

i mean baby spoonfuls not tablespoons or whatever - and you can easily mix pureed fruit with it once your baby is in to the swing of it a bit - I think that improves the texture a lot

thanks - the stuff I made tonight was like milk so maybe I made it a bit thin - is babyrice the best thing to start on?

Baby rice is gluten free so it's a good thing to start on if baby is under 6 months as it is recommended to avoid gluten (in wheat and oats) till at least that age. It's also very easy to mix a bit of pureed veg or fruit in so you get to introduce them to different stuff. I've done puree and rice with my three but it's not the only way to wean - if your baby is 6 months or so you can try baby led weaning - no puree - baby feeds themselves - I'm not competent to say anymore about it as I've done puree etc for main meals with odd bits of toast, veg etc here and there but if you do a search or look in weaning you will find a ton of posts on it. I think most people find they do a bit of both approaches.
Milk-like texture sounds alright to start by the way - it's what they're used to after all but it's easier to keep on the spoon if it's a fraction thicker
