Really struggling with 16m old

Hi,

Sorry if this ends up a long post but I just don't know what to do.

I began trying to wean my son when he was 6m but was a struggle as he had extremely bad reflux and would vomit his whole stomach contents just by coughing. He also ended up in hospital for 6 weeks due to an unknown issue with his lungs (but that's another story) and whilst there we managed to get his reflux under some control with two different medicines but it threw our normal schedule out the window and he began being fussy again.

He's always been fussy, kicks off with most food but will never says no to a yoghurt, crisp or biscuit. He did get better even though he would still fuss now and then but he began to enjoy feeding himself and then he recently got covid and would not have anything other than a bottle. I think he might of lost his taste as my husband had it also and lost his.

He's recovered now but he's gone back to being so fussy. I've tried everything but I end up giving him a bottle or yoghurt because I worry he will go hungry. I even try sitting with him with the food in front of him for a little while in hope he will eat but he just cry's the whole time.

I've mentioned this to his communal nurses and dietician (hes still under the hospital with his lungs) and all they say is to keep trying him with different foods but I feel like I have been since I began weaning him and I'm getting no where. The dietician says his weight is ok but it is on the lower side of what it should be.

I get so emotional over his weaning. Just taking about it sets me off because I feel like I'm not doing it right and it's my biggest failure as a mum.

Has anyone else had struggles? Anyone have any tips? I will honestly try anything.

TIA x
