Weaning 4 month old

So I've started to wean my 4 month old.
She is a big baby & a hungry baby, currently on 8 ounce!
Sometimes she's cries for more food as this could only be the reason, she is clean, fed & comfortable. She will suck the bottle but spit out the milk hence why I started weaning.

I am a first time mum, I have started to give her porridge with a bit of purée mixed in in the morning & also evening bottle around tea time as this is when she seems most hungry.
So far she seems pretty satisfied and has taken to the purées very well. She doesn't cry for more and is very happy in herself. She is a machine, no spitting out & no upset stomach or green nappies.

Any other mums weaned early & if so how has it affected your child later on down the line ?

When I had my kids (they are teens now) there was none of this six months thing. My babies were big and I started weaning at around four and a half to five months. My second breastfed for a year, it wasn't that I wanted her to stop, and most of their calories still came from milk but they were happy to try food. I think after bananas I moved on to putees that were based around sweet potato. I made all my first's meals but second one had jars.
There were no ill effects - I'm not sure what they would be? If your baby takes the food, is growing and is happy on it what's the issue?

Unless by "teens" you mean 18+ then the advice absolutely was weaning from 6 months. It changed in 2003
It does seem to be changing back again now though with conflicting evidence.

But to add to the (pointless) anecdotes, my dc were weaned as close to 6 months as possible. My nieces and nephews were all weaned closer to 4 months (apparently they were so clever and advanced they needed solids.)
My DC have no allergies at all. All of my 6 niblings have food intolerances/digestive issues. Make of that what you will.

Introducing solid foods after the recommended 6 months of age is also not optimal because it may cause deficiencies of zinc, protein, iron, and vitamins B and D that in turn suppress growth, and cause feeding problems

there is a need to identify more effective health education messaging to parents about the importance of the 4–6 month window for introduction of solid foods.

the article you’ve linked to is stating it’s important to introduce food at 4-6 months, whereas you says it’s 6 months - yet this is clearly not optimal for health according to you linked study and leaving introducing solid as until 6 months can cause growth and feeding problems

the world health organisation has clealry got its data and info from somewhere though… obviously you know better, sure.

We started weaning at 4 months on medical advice. I know people say early weaning can damage the gut - our paediatric gastroenterologist and dietician didn’t seem to think that was true….

obviously you know better, sure. it was in the link you yourself gave, which seemed odd as you write against it yet give a link stating that weaning should be done between 4-6 months, both the highlighted pieces I copied where from your link - most bizarre @Namechangestimes100 OP states she is weaning at 4 months, according to your link that is not early and optimal

I’ve not read the studies that original study referenced due to lack of academic logins but from my understanding the 4 months thing is due to exceptional circumstances like complex allergies, there are kids that can’t even tolerate the amino acid formula and are severely faltering growth from lack of nutrition, for those children thr potential negative side effects of introducing solids too early is outweighed by the fact that the child is malnourished.

but that’s not the case with OPs child and she hasn’t been advised to or guided by paediatric dietitian. I just don’t get why you’d want to, what’s the rush to give baby solids. The child can’t sit up at 4 months there is an increased risk In choking. Baby rice id just fillet junk. The food for 4 month old has minimal calories as it’s just puréed fruit and veg. What’s the point. The guidance is there for a reason, the nhs, the WHO, the AAP, unicef et Al didn’t just pull this info out of their arse. Why not follow it. It’s

For my first 2 babies weaning was recommended to be started at 4 months. No difference in my first 2 that I did this with and my last one where I followed the new advice of 6 months. You are not being a terrible Mum.

perhaps read the entire piece you've linked to about weaning between 4-6 months

Weaning was recommended from 4 months when mine were babies, so that's when I started. Youngest is 11. Just because advice has changed in recent years doesn't mean it's not still ok to start at that age.

Can't believe someone has called OP a terrible mum!!
