How do you stop breastfeeding a 1 year old?

My LB has just turned one and I return to work soon. As selfish as it sounds, I no longer enjoy breastfeeding. He bites, scratches, pulls my breasts and nipples, pulls my hair etc and I find myself getting frustrated. I think I might be ready to stop breastfeeding.

How do I stop? Do I need to gradually decrease feeds or can I just stop altogether? Do I need to replace his usual feeds with cows' milk/ formula? Do I need to use a specific bottle or can I use his Munchkin 360 cup that he uses for water? I know babies use the breast for comfort, what can I offer as a replacement? He's never taken to dummies and I don't really want to start now.

We've not had the 9-12 month review yet and I've not been able to speak with a health visitor lately so sorry if I'm asking stupid questions!

Distract, don't offer, don't refuse

Yes just put milk in an open cup for him, at this age he can jusy have it with his meals. Does he have a bedtime feed too? If he does, get someone else to put him to bed for a while if you can.

Great difficulty
No in all seriousness drop a feed at a time
The first thing in the morning feed is the easiest to drop, then it depends on the child. I found bedtime the second easiest to drop then the middle of the night.

If you’re still feeding in the day just stop daylight feeds. Distract with iPad or tv when desperate.
