5 month old dropping 5th bottle since starting weaning, normal or should I make sure he still has 5?

My lo WAS having five 7oz bottles of formula a day prior to starting weaning him, but now that he has two tiny solid meals (breakfast and tea, given between milk feeds) we can't seem to fit in five bottles a day still, it's dropped to four as he tends to want a milk feed every four hours and sleeps through the night 8pm til 8am usually.

He's still having plenty of wet and dirty nappies, and his fontanelle is fine, he doesn't appear to miss the 5th bottle, so is this ok or should he be having the 5 bottles still and food on top of that?

Or should I give a little drink of water with the "solid" meals to make sure he's getting adequate fluids?

if your lo is still sleeping through and still having plenty of wet nappies then he is getting enough to do him. I always gave a water with a solids meal so that would be an idea to keep his fluids up. I think a minimum of 20oz of milk per day is recommended when weaning and up to the age of 1 so your lo would still be having more than that even when the bottle has been dropped.

Fine to drop it as long as having 20 fl oz a day minimum. x

My lo was fully bf when I weaned her at 6 months she literally dropped a feed a month as a meal was introduced, she was only on 5 feeds a day and by 10/11 months down to one feed a day! As long they are healthy and thriving they should be fine lo are so much better at eating what they need than we are. My others had been milk addicts so it was a strange experience!

Ok will start to offer sips of water with the food, but glad to know you don't think it's a problem.
