the lactose intolerant baby and the confused mummy trying to wean him

My ds has been prescribed soya milk since he was 3 months and I haven't worried about his lactose intolerance whilst he has been on formula. I started weaning at 6 months (a month ago) and he will eat fruit puree and stewed veg, but hates baby rice and has reacted to red foods like berries and tomatoes. Neither he nor his twin sister seem ready to have lumps in their food and will throw up if it's not smooth enough (for ease I use pots of fruit, but I prefer to make my own for everything else).

I just wondered what I can give him. I guess I can mix the soya with porridge for breakfast, but are there any yoghurts that are soya based that he can have? Also at what age can I start trying him with dairy as I hope he will grow out of this as my sister did (my mum can't remember what she did!).

Thanks!

Soya yoghurts are lovely - they are called 'Alpro' and I had the exactly same problem with dd2 - she was lactose intolerant from birth until she was 2yrs old - we brought her up on soya formula which I managed to get prescribed.

Alpro yoghurts are actually really nice - not too lumpy - the strawberry ones are very yummy!

You can use the soya to make other meals - you can put it in mash potato, porridge, general puddings etc.

My dd2 was almost 2yrs old when the consultant finally said it was time to re-introduce lactose into her diet - evidentally 2yrs old is the right age to try but whenever you do it you must do it very slowly and very gradually.

Is your ds ok with egg? One way to find out is to smear just a tiny amount of whisked egg on his skin and if the skin flares up it'll mean he is allergic to egg too. Always worth finding out because so many foods contain egg too these days.
