7mo just ate a whole 2 large egg omelette... too much?

😳

As the title suggests, my baby boy absolutely loves eggs! Today he ate a whole omelette consisting of 2 large eggs with chopped up tomatoes and kale and some butter. We do BLW (for at least one meal of the day) so he was picking some up himself but also opening his mouth wide and leaning forwards if I tried to give him some. Also he didn't want much of his usual bottle afterwards.

Is it possible for babies to eat too many eggs at once? And do I need to worry about portion size too much? I often offer him more than I think he'll eat in case he's extra hungry and some usually does end up on the floor - which gets hoovered up by the dog very quickly 🥲

I think you’re fine OP, they don’t have guidance on the number of eggs for adults nowadays so can’t see why they would for babies. My DD loves an omelette and will eat a 1 large egg one happily in one sitting, I’m sure she’d eat a 2 large egg one if I let her but as it is we have a perfect small pan for her so I won’t test it any time soon Grin

I would brace yourself for the nappy later though…

… or constipation

Wildrobin · 25/01/2022 13:47

I would say that’s really brilliant! He’ll have a really high need for choline which is amazing for cognitive health and egg yolks seem really the best source . You are offering him really healthy food and I found our dc managed to self-regulate well, I think this ability only disappears when more processed food creeps in.
Wish our eldest had eaten that well as she only wanted milk for so long

HollowTalk · 25/01/2022 13:47

That's adult sized, OP! No wonder she didn't want her milk! She's only been weaned a month, hasn't she?

Bloominmove · 25/01/2022 13:52

Hahahaha that's so sweet

Hungry little one, that's good i'd prefer that than the opposite.

toppkatz · 25/01/2022 14:04

That's massive for a tot, and is an adult sized portion. I had a 2-egg omelette for my dinner yesterday evening.

It's fine. Marvellous even. But I believe he is meant to have his bottle first and then meal!

Great eater you've got there

Thanks for all your helpful replies! He did have constipation for a while but since we've been offering him breakfast he's been going almost every day and seems much more comfortable. He usually has the recommended amount of milk between meals if not more so I'm not worried about one meal filling him up too much as generally he gets enough milk.. I am conscious of that as I know he still needs to get all nutrients from milk. I just love seeing him enjoying his food and don't want to stop him if he's not full! Especially if it's something healthy like eggs. He also loves to binge eat sweet potato wedges 😄

I usually offer solids before milk but relatively spaced out - is that ok? So when he wakes up he has his breakfast, then milk around 1.5-2 hours later and he takes a decent amount then it's the same for his other meals. He has 4 bottles a day plus some usually in the night still. I'm guessing it doesn't matter as long as he's having enough milk?

Well he probably won't poo for a while! It'a fine, he would have stopped if he didn't want it.

Scrumptious breakfast!

My little one (less than a year) used to have 1 large porridge and 1 banana mashed in.
The first time I gave him, I thought we would be sharing - but no, he had other ideas. That was him done for a good many hours though. He never had much lunch after that. Grin
