Cup and bowl

Hello

Please can someone recommend a good cup and bowl?

My daughter is 7 months and has only recently really started eating so I hadn't bothered with a bowl or a cup. I put the food directly on her high chair tray (we're doing BLW) I wanted to start giving her a chance to practice with a spoon, give her some cereal for breakfast

But I just don't know where to begin, there are so many (and everything is so expensive) please can anyone recommend what's worth it?

We got some cups and spoon/fork sets off Amazon! They were really affordable and metal with plastic handles so more of the proper cutlery "feel" plus they have little boxes to take out with you!

And plates, we tried those nice bamboo ones. But they're almost ALL sectioned and I didn't want to teach LO that food can't be touching so we switched to silicone (still suctioned) and they work really well. Also tons easier to clean than bamboo, which weetabix seems to stick like cement to 😂

Just an FYI if you're BLW, if you haven't come across Solid Starts (on insta and internet) they're AMAZING. Also they have their own favourites for cutlery and bowls and stuff!

IKEA? I'm sure they have them in asda too, boots etc - shouldn't cost more than a pound or two. They have bowls in Poundland at £1

findmeaholiday · 24/09/2021 12:09

Another IKEA vote. Their plastic set is great

gogohm · 24/09/2021 12:11

Ps I had the ikea pack of 4 coloured bowls and 4 plates for mine and still have them 22 years later (use in garden!) a tea spoon is fine but I used a plastic spoon at first

Having tried many different cups over the years, the best one, in my opinion, is the very simple tommee tippee flip up spout one with two handles - easy to clean, doesn't leak, very easy for the baby to hold and drink from.

@loafcake thank you 🙏

Oh and also for your own sanity, by ones that A) are dishwasher safe and B) stack nicely in the cupboard otherwise you'll forever be opening the cupboard and plates falling everywhere

PlanetTeaTime · 24/09/2021 21:01

@findmeaholiday lol will do, thank you

We had various sized Munchkin bowls with suction bases and spoons that worked (and work still!) well.

And plates, we tried those nice bamboo ones. But they're almost ALL sectioned and I didn't want to teach LO that food can't be touching

This is a valid point, but our DC went through a stage of being a bit overwhelmed by having different food on the same plate and wouldn't eat anything, but having it in compartments seemed to help them process what was there. When they were a bit older, they worked well as we used to say that one compartment was for "anything they didn't want to eat today" which meant they didn't throw food or reject the whole plate because of one offending item. Now they are a bit older (still pre-school) they eat happily from a mixed single plate. Just an alternate experience with the divided plates Smile
