Dairy Free lunch ideas

Hi all,

Any advice for dairy free lunches?

DD is 8 months old and have started introducing lunches so up to 3 meals a day now and intend on giving this consistently at this stage.

Wondering what others give their little ones for lunch? Today I offered half a bagel, cheese and melon - all as finger foods.

Other days I may offer scrambled egg and beans or a small portion of leftover dinner from the day before

What else can I offer ?! Seems a bit boring.

Thanks :)

Falafel www.nhs.uk/start4life/weaning/recipes-and-meal-ideas/falafel/
Tuna sweetcorn pasta salad (penne is the perfect shape for finger food)
Boiled egg with marmite soldiers
Smashed avocado on toast
Sausage rolls www.mummycooks.com/blogs/recipes/homemade-pork-sausage-rolls (Jus Rol pastry is dairy free)
Cheese scone www.thevegspace.co.uk/recipe-vegan-cheese-scones/

Very confused by OP and PP suggestions of cheese. Cheese is dairy, isn’t it?

Cheekyandfreaky · 21/09/2021 06:24

Oops saw PP suggesting Vegan cheese scone, makes sense.

Hummus wraps.

Peanut butter on toast. If they have a dairy allergy ask the doctor about early introduction of peanut - it's quite important to introduce early.

Fruit
Falafel

Fake cheese toastie,
I have tended to give an Ella’s pouch or a jar at lunchtime for dd (I’ve got two who are dairy free) as it’s easier and very convenient if I am out

Peanut butter on toast. As a pp said, it's a really good idea to introduce it early and often if other allergies are present.

My son loves humous. Would eat it all day if he could.

Frittata /Spanish omelette (leave out milk/cream)
Wedges
Fishfingers
Meatballs
Strips of carrot, red pepper, green beans etc - lightly stir fried to make them softer if you prefer
Fallafel

Thanks for the suggestions.

Another question if anyone knows - the vegan cheese I have bought is vitalife (I think? Something along those lines) does it melt well?

I've read that some vegan cheeses don't melt?

I think that one is ok.

I sometimes use it on pizza for my son. He loves it, but then doesn't know what real cheese tastes like lol.

I don't use it that often though as it's expensive for just him.

Tee20x · 21/09/2021 11:46

@Twizbe

Yeah I think I paid something like £2.60 for a block!

The only dairy alternatives I get are flora and alpro soya growing up milk.

Occasionally I do chicken tikka for tea so get some soya yoghurt, but not often.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 21/09/2021 12:01

They had exactly what I was having.

DominicRaabsTravelAgent · 21/09/2021 16:01

Was is Violife? Vitalite is the DF margerine.

Dragonpox · 21/09/2021 16:04

Watch the replacement cheeses. Many aren't fortified - violife isn't. Which makes them nutritionally a bit pointless and just extra salt.

I do lots of nut butters and basically reheats of last nights dinner.
