Feeling really down today

I was excited about weaning, early on my daughter had a reaction to dairy and we've been doing the milk ladder everything has been going well (she is 7m)

I gave her eggs yesterday and she had a nasty rash come up on her face

I just feel like it's really knocked my confidence

Baby led weaning is hard, you're constantly worrying that she's going to choke and now I get really anxious giving her new foods

Don't really know the point to this post. Just being a mum is hard. It's lonely not having the answers but being the one responsible for finding them.

She was in hospital when she was 3 months old and it really effect me, it's made me much more anxious about her getting poorly.

Can anyone give me some breakfast ideas which don't contain cows milk dairy or eggs please?

Thanks for reading

@PlanetTeaTime It's hard being a parent but I bet you're doing a grand job! Smile

My daughter (7 months) LOVES weetabix for her breakfast. Is this an option with dairy free milk? Smile What about toast and marmite? Smile

You can use dairy free milk (we use oat milk). Then they can have pretty much all cereals or porridge. Most dairy free alternatives are fortified with calcium and vitamin D so they aren't missing out.

Also toast with dairy free butter. Or fruit.

I knowhow you feel about how hard it is though. My DS has an egg allergy. On his first go at egg, he came out in an immediate rash, then proceeded to rub his eggy hands in his eyes, then projectile vomitted. I've never been so scared in all my life. It's so worrisome when they're very young.

You can make egg alternatives with chia seeds I think, there's some recipes in book called what mummy makes- it's really good. When you feel ready maybe you can try that?
But what about getting some vegan yoghurt and serving with fruit and whizzed up seeds/nuts (if you've gone done that road yet) if not add some cheerios on the side. Xx

There are some great deals suggestions here thank you, I'm definitely going to get some oat milk

I second the what mummy makes book! I hated weaning OP, it made me miserable and I particularly hated baby led weaning. It's ok to give some purées and mashed stuff too you know! I had a few breakthrough things with my DD. One was yogurt (use plant based) - put it straight on the high chair tray and let your DC play with it/eat it while you drink your morning coffee! Ditto mashed banana. I found it helped lessen my anxiety as they can't choke on it. Then I had an Annabel Karmel book that had lots of recipes for croquettes / balls of food - so for example butternut squash, sweetcorn and potato all cooked and mashed up roughly with some (vegan) egg. You shape them and fry them - it's finger food that's less of a choking hazard! The what mummy makes book is great for egg and dairy free recipes as she nearly always lists when you can use an alternative. My DD is egg allergic and for breakfast has the banana and cinnamon oaty bars/carrot cakes/prune and almond muffins/porridge fingers all from that book! Plus she has porridge with a side of any type of fruit, or toast with peanut butter or vegan cheese spread and sometimes she has crumpets. Take it one meal a day at first, and it's ages until you need to be on 3 meals a day. Take it slowly and you'll be amazed how fast your DC progresses!

linerforlife · 14/09/2021 14:24

Sorry that's supposed to say vegan cheese for the croquettes!!!

PlanetTeaTime · 14/09/2021 15:56

My son has an egg allergy too and I know how you feel. He’s 5yo now and has a few other allergies as well.

One product I absolutely love is Bob’s Red Mill Egg Replacer. It’s just tapioca flour and is perfect for muffins, pancakes etc. It doesn’t always work for larger things like cakes but it has tons of uses. It seems pricey until you realise one bag is equivalent to 34 eggs.

I’ve got a really good article I can share with you which reassured me about weaning my next baby: www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.todaysparent.com/baby/baby-health/introducing-allergens-to-babies-how-to/amp/
