Which baby cup?

Morning,.
So I am doing BLW, and I know we're meant to offer water after each meal..(cooled boiled water)

Looking at a few sites they say like a sippy cup type ones. Which one? I looked in quite a few shops superdrug, boots, pound land even.

Which one do I choose? I'm so confused 🤦🏼‍♀️

We've got several and find the 360 cup best.

But don't stress about it - as long as you can get the top on and off easily (a surprising challenge for some!), and your baby can pick it up it will be fine.

And really don't worry about boiling water! Assuming you're in the UK tap water is perfectly fine.

I started with the Tommee Tippee free flow cup then moved onto the Munchkin straw cup around 7 months - didn’t take my DD long to work out how to drink from a straw.

I've tried lots over the years and the one that I've found easiest to clean and easiest for young babies to drink from is the basic tommee tippee flip up spout cup.

Great thank you 😁 it's so stressful getting the right one 🤦🏼‍♀️

Boiled water? But we still have to continue to use boiled water for the feeds? Should I use bottle water then? Then comes the question of sterilising the water cup 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ then questioning the sterilisering of the bottles for milk. Omg who knew it could be so confusing even contradictary 😂

They're putting far worse than tap water in their mouths by 6 months. Cups etc don't need to be sterilised. You use boiled water & slightly cooled water for milk in case of bacteria in the powder & to help dissolve it. I cut down sterilising bottles/dummy/teething rings etc gradually with all 5 once weaning was underway (although with 3-5 they we're washed on a hot cycle in the dishwasher so we're technically sterile anyway).

Yes you still use boiling water for milk. I personally don't sterilise my baby's water cup but I don't know if that's wrong. You can use tap water for drinking but bottled water isn't recommended because of the sodium.

NannyR · 17/08/2021 10:47

Tap water is fine for them to drink and cups don't need to be sterilised, just washed well in hot water (unless you are giving formula in it). Water for making up formula needs to be hotter than 70° and bottles sterilised until you stop using it.

There’s no need to boil drinking water or sterilise water cups for a healthy baby over 6 months old. It’s not contradictory, the UK advice centres on the formula milk powder. Hot water kills any bugs in the milk powder, sterilising bottles is in case of any milk residue left behind improper washing.

As for the cups, mine would only use the mam soft spout one initially. The 360 cup is good but my DD didn’t figure it out until she was almost 1 and her brother is 6 months and also refusing it. Just buy any old one, if baby doesn’t like it then try something else.
