Weaning/dropping milk feeds

Hi all,

Ftm here. My DS is now 9mo and is currently on 3 meals a day. However, he is still having 5 x 7oz bottles of milk per day. (Expressed breast milk if that makes any difference)

My question is how do I begin to reduce these feeds? Or should I be reducing the amount he's having? Is it or when is it best to cut out the night feeds?

I haven't seen a HV since his 6 week check so not sure. So any advice would be helpful.
DS was 8lbs 8oz when he was born lost some weight after but he regained this and more in a short space of time.

Currently he has

6am-7am 7oz
7am-8am breakfast
9am-10am morning nap
10:30am-11 7oz
Midday - lunch
13:30-14:00 afternoon nap
15:00-15:30 afternoon snack
17:00 dinner
18:00-19:00 Bath/book/7oz bottle/bed

Anywhere between 22:00-00:00 he would have another 7oz bottle then again another 7oz between 3am-4am.

(These timing varies day to day so anytime between the stated times)

He doesn't always have the fully 7oz bottle each time sometime he may have 4 or 5oz.

No help (sorry!) but it’s reassuring to hear someone else still doing a couple of feeds at night! DS is 8 months, having three good meals a day and 3 or 4 bottles during the day, but apparently he’s ravenous at night! Weirdly the second night feed has crept back in since we started weaning - it seems like the more he eats, the hungrier he is 😂

Well the advice is 600 ml at 9months dropping to 400 ml at 10 months so if you do want to get him to 400 ml by 10 months, could you drop the mid morning bottle and swap it for a snack and a small cup of milk?

Things like cubes of cheese and halved grapes, apple wedges spread with smooth nut butter and these cheese straws with some halved cherry tomatoes all make good snacks.

Alternatively, you could start offering food first and solids after. The advice is usually to do it the other way around until they are one to get them to have enough milk but I don't think that's an issue with your LO Smile

The Caroline Walker Trust has a useful guide on how much to have at this age here. You'll probably need from page 39 Smile

How are you both getting on now @WeaningNewbiiee? Has he dropped any bottles yet? Smile
