Strawberries - are they allowed from 6 months or not?

I have a vague memory from my first two DCs that they can't eat strawberries until some point after six months. Bought some today and was about to pop them on DS2s tray (he is six months) as a further experiment in BLW but something stopped me. But don't quite trust my memory, grateful for a refresh.

I tried DD with strawberries at about 8 months and it ran right through her - sorry! She started eating them at about a year and she was fine. Not sure about 6 months though. Sorry i can't be of more help.

Ahh, maybe that is the memory I have, not that they are not allowed, just the immediate effect they have! But then again he has been a bit bunged up since we started weaning...

I think they are an allergy risk so it's recommended that you introduce them later if there's allergies in the family. But I might be wrong.

Fire in a strawberry then!

they are allowed, but some people are cautious, they are quite allergenic in some people. same with kiwis and tomatoes. my dd only just started having any of these at around 16 or 17 months old.

My hv said not to give them strawberries because of the small pips on the outside but I can't remember when she said it was ok! DD had them over the summer, so a bit after 6 months and was fine.

I think mine had them from around 7/8 months. from babycentre website:

Strawberries and raspberries

Seed fruits can occasionally cause an allergic reaction in children. Wait until your baby is six months before giving them. Allergic reactions to these types of fruit and vegetables are usually mild, and often just affect the mouth, causing some itching or a rash where the food touches the lips and mouth. This is called oral allergy syndrome.

Thank you for all the advice. It is interesting about the allergy risk and rash, he had a strawberry yoghurt for the first time this evening which has left a bumpy, red rash on his chin. This could be a sign, will probably leave for a couple a months rather than risk it. Thanks again.
