Tips to get 6 month old to take bottle

We have just started weaning and so far DS does well in tasting different food. My problem though is that DS won’t drink from a bottle, which means that I always have to be home for bedtime at 7pm. I want to be able to go out one day per week while DP does bedtime. So, do you have any tips to encourage milk from a bottle?

Today we tried breastfeed before nap, nap for 45 minutes, banana for breakfast (four mouthfuls actually swallowed in total?), nappy, then milk in bottle whilst I sat at the other end of the house.

DS only chews the bottle teat until getting frustrated. I then breastfed. I realise we probably should not breastfeed so quickly after he refuses the bottle.

How often should we give it a go?

I realise this isn’t really weaning but I thought this was the best place for it.

My DD wouldn't ever take a bottle. She would take sips from a spoon and then from a sippy cup. BUT and this is important - she wouldn't take spoon or sippy cup from me, only DP. She could smell my milk and whilst I was there, no way would she take anything else. Once she'd got the hang of the sippy cup she was quite happy to take from me though. I think I may have also been expressing some milk for the spoon / cup so the smell / taste was familiar. Then exchanged for formula later. I had stopped BF after 9 mths so had an overlap so to speak.

Sometimes you just have to accept there'll be waste and not sure just how much food they're taking in. Try offering food before your DS is too hungry so he's not upset. Banana is good - tastes sooo much better than baby rice !
Good luck

Have you tried it in a sippy cup?

Honestly, if its one night a week and only one feed, I don't think it's the end of the world if they go without?
