Breakfast ideas for 9mo

My baby hates all cereals, and doesn't seem to handle toast well despite being good with other bready type things eg pitta. Her chewing is coming along well.

The only breakfasts I can get her to eat are mixed fruit purée, eggy bread or one of those Ella's kitchen porridge pouches which are only about 2 per cent oats.

Can anyone suggest other breakfast ideas? She's allergic to cow's milk and peanut and we're avoiding all other nuts and sesame until we have testing. She's fine with egg.

PS: she used to have yoghurt but now reacts with hives, but I guess I could try coconut yoghurt...

123 pancakes? 1 banana, 2 eggs, 3 tablespoons of porridge oats. Mix. Tablespoon at a time into hot pan with a bit of oil, cook a couple of minutes each side. DS likes them with natural yoghurt to dip and fruit.

Thanks that's a good idea - will try tomorrow

I have a dairy free 8 month old. I made some vegan sugar free banana muffins. I've done 2 recipes - one used ground flax seed as a binder but the other recipe didn't. I just googled for recipes.

There are no rules as to which food can be eaten at each meal. So she could have pasta for breakfast, or rice and fish, or mashed potato, or beans.
What about a continental breakfast? Croissants with ham, goats cheese and fruit?

Also porridge made with some fruit purée and coconut milk but cook it till it's quite solid then give as a finger food.

Scrambled egg, omelette
Blueberry pancakes
Crumpets

@Elisheva very good point! I have a 14yr old who very regularly will have beans on toast for breakfast!

Porridge fingers were very popular with my DD at that age mykidslickthebowl.com/porridge-fingers/

I often do overnight oats or chia pudding for my 10 month old. You could use coconut milk or yogurt and add fruit, I usually mash a ripe banana in. Baked porridge is another option, I keep these in my freezer www.healthylittlefoodies.com/fruity-oat-breakfast-bites/

Sweet potato and eggs is another favourite and the banana/egg/oat pancakes mentioned above. Keep trying with the toast though, my baby has only just gotten the hang of it.

mimofboy2 · 17/07/2021 06:49

I give mine ready break and add in some fruit, yo can make it different consistencies depending on what your little one likes . Banana pancakes always good to just banana and egg

YukoandHiro · 17/07/2021 09:51

Well I tried the pancakes and she had a massive reaction include eye and lip swelling. So she's suddenly sensitised to either eggs or oats now too (likely eggs... as they were probably more loosely cooked than in other forms she's had them).

I am so exhausted and fed up. I would give anything to just be able to feed my children.

Oh cross posted.

Can you try adding things to the eggy bread if fine with that? Weetabix well soaked in the milk they can drink.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 17/07/2021 11:34

Bet that was horrid @YukoandHiro - you have my sympathies!! My dairy free baby is the first allergic baby I've had (she's number 9) but I have children with very selective eating, one with very severe colitis who can't eat things because of it and a husband with ibs who can't tolerate much gluten or dairy. I suspect you're right with it being eggs. I haven't tried egg yet. I'm a vegan due to baby being cmpa (was vegetarian previously). We think she reacts to soya but only if I eat lots of it - I've not given her any to actually eat herself. I've consumed egg white in a couple of things I've eaten but I doubt it would have been enough to get an reaction in baby. Last time I really tried dairy she came out in hives for 3 days.
On the plus side I have made egg free pancakes before now!

For breakfast we do some of these:
A Freddie’s pouch try for max once a week
Weetabix with mashed banana/some
Puréed fruits stirred in
Purple porridge (from AK) porridge with grated apple, pear and blueberries - blended to turn purple
Mashed avo & banana
Homemade fruit purée - she likes orange, prune & apples
Scrambled eggs with cheese or with wilted spinach & tomato

I haven’t given her break yet but I’m going to try in the next week, she’s 9 months old.
