Ok this is prob really stupid but I'm starting to give dd chicken etc with her veg for lunch. Up until now I've been carrying her tubs of puree in my changing bag and serving at room temp. What do I do with the chicken. Is it safe to transport chicken around? What do other people do???

And when did you stop giving milk at lunchtime?

I stopped giving dd milk at lunch time when she was eating a savoury puree followed by pud (fruit puree, yoghurt, that sort of thing). I think she was about 9 months.

I tend to feed dd things at room temp when we're out and about, so I have simply avoided things with meat in them for when we're out. I have got a mini cool bag complete with mini ice pack, so I suppose you could use something like that to keep it chilled. I think I would still want to reheat and cool chicken, though.

Hi Nataz! I was strruggling with the 'when to give milk/solids' thing too and found the following times work well - mean she's hungry for milk and solids properly when she should be, and mean she gets enough of everything (my dd is 7 months and HV agreed this was the right amount of food)

7am - full milk feed
8am - solid breakfast (cereal/toast/fruit puree)
1145/1200pm - solid lunch (protein and veg, fruit/yoghurt)
230pm - full milk feed
5pm - solid tea (veg/fruit)
630/7pm - full milk feed
11pm - dream feed (milk)

I'm in the process of dropping the 11pm feed though. Not sure how old your LO is so hope that helps a little. Don't know when to drop the 230pm milk feed...guess it may phase itself out as they take more solids at lunchtime. Hope that helps a little!

About the chicken - reckon you have a couple of hours max of it being at room temp. before it's inedible. Guess an ice pack would be a good plan. I serve everything at room temp. though, even at home, and my daughter doesn't mind one bit.

Hi thanks for the advice. DD is 6 months but has been having solids for a while. At the mo we are still combining solids with milk at breakfast, lunch and tea. We stopped the dream feed a few weeks ago and have had no probs. Shes still on 4 milk feeds of around 5-7ozs. Concerned that if I drop the lunchtime then shes only on 3 feeds. Not sure if thats ok or not.

Think its prob easier to stick to non-meat when out, guess shes gonna get bored of lentils!!

Have you tried your dd with tinned salmon (the variety that's tinned in water)? If she likes it, you could take a small tin and some cooked veggies (just don't do what I did once and forget the tin opener ). Your dd is too young for tuna, yet, though. Or could you give her protein at tea time rather than at lunch?
