Best weaning apps?

DS has just turned 5 months so I'm starting to think about weaning. I have a 7yo DS too but I really can't remember anything!! He's also ridiculously fussy so keen to try a routine. Has anyone tried and tested any good weaning apps?

I didnt use an app, I just got to 6m then put a small scoop/fingers of whatever we bad for lunch/dinner on their plate

I thought it was best to start simple, with single veg purees at first?
That's interesting though, would be a lot easier for me that way.

You could do it that way if you wanted. The method I used is sometimes called Baby Led Weaning. Have a read on it online it may suit.

We just gave our ds what we were eating where possible. He was happily eating sausages or chicken legs at 6 months and ate a full Christmas dinner at bang on 6 months. No spoon feeding at all, occasionally we had something he couldn’t have like really spicy curry but still just made him an alternative but normal meal. He is now 9 and eats absolutely everything from fish to game to sushi etc I am not sure why you would need an app.

I am not sure why people need apps for so many things!

Weaning really isn't complicated, especially if you've done it before. A quick google (or a book even) will tell you all you need to know. Start with veg puree, breadsticks etc. Then just give tiny portions of what you're eating, without the salt.

Hi OP. Annabel Karmel has written some good books with suggested meal plans. They may give you the info you are looking for.

Ive got one called baby weaning and recipes that was free. Only been using it a week but it’s good so far! As poster above said it’s easy enough but as a clueless first time mum I wanted some guidance.
This one has good recipes by weaning week, even if they are as simple as purée an apple, it just gives me ideas when my brains a bit puree’d itself!

Oh as PP said, no need for apps, not sure what it would tell you. I am a biiiiiig fan of baby led weaning.

Have a google, there's a few good books on it and helpful supportive fb groups too. Basically give small finger food portions of whatever you're having and let them pick and play with it. They'll eventually eat it. Even without teeth they can get through anything cut appropriately.

Key things are: cut anything that is somewhat spherical into quarters: grapes, cherry tomatoes etc. Everything else can be in finger size pieces for them to hold. Our little one just eats whatever we eat and he never had anything mashed or blended. One of her first "meals" was spag bol. Messy but fun. She's a great eater.
It seems a bit strange (and new to people of previous generation who were used to blending or purring everything) but BLW is the older version of weaning again, and is back in vogue.

Means we don't need to meal prep etc, just serve a small, unsalted portion of whatever we're having. At 6m I just did one meal a day and slowly increased.
Today (at 12months) she's had weetabix and fruit, curry for lunch whilst out with us in a restaurant and having roast chicken now.

It's been so fun watching her explore and try things. I'd really recommend, though if you're nervous about gagging/choking I'd watch some YouTube videos to educate yourself but it's been fine for us.

But if you do want to purée there's loads of books out there

@SpunBodgeSquarepants No right or wrong way to go with it really OP 😊 as someone else has suggested - the Annabel Karmel Weaning book is good if you’re not sure where to start.

I really liked the idea of baby led weaning but was slightly hesitant and nervous where to start after reading so many different approaches!
For the first 2 weeks I offered a single veg as a purée from a spoon and in finger form for him to explore. So Day 1 he had broccoli purée from the spoon and I gave him a steamed broccoli floret to have a go at too. And I just kind of followed his lead from there! He was SO interested in the spoon so on day 2 or 3 I sat the loaded spoon on his tray and he picked it up and put it straight in his mouth 👏🏼👏🏼

After the first 2 weeks I felt far more confident just going with full BLW so that’s what we do now 😊 DS is now 8 months and today ate:

  • Banana & Peanut Butter Porridge for breakfast
  • Cheesy Broccoli & Cauliflower Pasta (his fav!) and some blueberries and cherry tomatoes for lunch
  • Chicken Curry with Peas, Corn and Rice for dinner

@tiredmama2020 Thank you so much! I will buy the annabel karmel book to start, and as you say just go with it! I'm not sure why I'm feeling so unconfident about it this time round.
