he used to scoff everything, then suddenly refused to let us spoon feed him! All of those lovingly prepared purees going to waste!

So for the 1st week of finger foods only, he ate everything - veg sticks, potato, sandwiches, fruit chunks. I was very smug at my fab self feeding baby.

And now, just a couple of weeks on, he will only eat things with a bread theme. so he had some of my crumpets this morning, will eat toast, loves breadsticks, eats a bit of a sandwich. But he won't eat anything else!

I do worry about the chemicals in things like crumpets, but when I give him anything else, he won't eat at all. It ends up in his eyes, on the floor or on the dog (who is incidentally loving ds's 'self feeding')

please tell me this is a phase and he will grow out of it!

Am in a similar position. DD will eat a little of anything, but only a couple of mouthfulls (previously eating solids enthusiastically).
Hoping that someone out there has an answer... and will find this thread now it's been bumped.

Does this help? Worked for me this evening... Good luck!

I went the other way, and have given him bigger things. He tucked into his lunch happily today - mini quiche (whole), pear (whole). and he ate his dinner too - pasta in sauce with a slice of pork and 1/2 a peach (he didnt eat all of it obv [wink

anna - on your thread it says about finding the right size. maybe your lo likes little bits and mine likes big bits?

hmmm, I'm sure tomorrow will be totally different though!

still have the bread fixation though...

It sounds like he's after some carbo rich fuel - try pasta with bolognaise / cheesy veggie sauce / tuna cheese and veg or mashed potato with beans etc. They do tend to eat in phases depending on what they need at the time. HTH!

oh - it might be worth checking the salt content of crumpets? I think it might be quite high.

bunnyhunny · 16/11/2007 22:15

hmmm, yes he could well be after carbs - he is very active, so it would make a lot of sense

the crumpets are quite high in salt, so he only had a tiny bit while I was eating mine..

also, he can't have dairy or soy, so cheese is out

any other suggestions?

How about:

Risotto (or plain rice made in veggie or chicken stock) with steamed veggies of your choice (e.g. butternut squash, roccoli, mushrooms etc) - you could just omit the cheese that gets stirred in at the end.

Baked potato
Baked beans
omlette? with veggies in again
Pasta with a white sauce (made with his usual milk) using mixed herbs / oregano +/- black pepper with veggies / tuna / tinned salmon / sardines etc
erm....

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 16/11/2007 22:21

chicken casserole with potatoes and other root veggies

bunnyhunny · 16/11/2007 22:24

thanks!
he actually ate the pasta today, so I can try a white sauce at a later date.
baked potato sounds like a good one too. I look forward to seeing him gobble that down!

Also - you probably do anyway but how about porridge for breakfast?? I make it slightly thicker and then DD picks it up with her hands and eats fistfuls of it. I make a mix of porridge oats, dessicated coconute, raisins and chopped apricots etc.....she loves it and I get the extra fruit in to her too.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 17/11/2007 08:00

DD definitely goes through phases of wanting carbs and then fruit and then this and then that - she always seems to favour one thing at a time and I think that's normal. She's certainly fine nutriotion wise and you look at thier diet over a week rather than a day!
