Hey everyone I've just started weaning my baby and I was wondering what kind of cereals would be good to introduce? Apparently weetabix is good but then someone told me that it has alot of salt in, I don't know how true this is? Advice would be appreciated. TIA

Ready brek is good, no additives and it’s nice and easy for them to eat.

You can get things like no sugar/no honey etc Cheerios but they are basically cardboard Grin

Both of mine loved ready brek with fruit added in.

Just googled the salt content for Weetabix; it's 0.1g per 2 biscuit serving. At this stage of weaning, your baby will be having much less than that, maybe half a biscuit? So 0.025g of salt which is low (the daily limit is 1g of salt for under 1s). So it's fine.

Yep, Ready Brek or regular porridge oats are good too.

Weetabix and porridge, by 8/9 months mine enjoyed dry Cheerios with some fresh fruit chopped up, great for practicing the pincer grip.

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/04/2021 00:13

Dd loved porridge with mushed banana at that age.
Weetabix is fine too, but word of warning, it's an absolute bugger to get off anything once it dries!

WantingAnother · 29/04/2021 00:28

Yes we gave DD when weaning half a weetabix with some smushed banana or porridge. She still loves both now at 19 months

Porridge, definitely. You can use it to make overnight oats too. That is, a splash of fruit juice and a few spoons of natural yoghurt mixed through the oats and left ... overnight! In the fridge, obviously. You can add all sorts to both porridge and overnight oats as the baby gets older - mushed fruit including defrosted frozen fruit (just put a couple of bits on top of the overnight oats), chopped fruit, honey, raisins, loads of things. It's very versatile really and very filling. It might sound like a faff but it's just putting things in a bowl.

Porridge, I mix I'm some grated apple and cinnamon or peanut butter and chia seeds. Weetabix definitely (and not high in salt). Shredded wheat is a good one also (we have the mini ones).

Megan2018 · 29/04/2021 20:43

Bite size shredded wheat are brilliant as babies feed themselves easily.
Weetabix is a bitch to clean up!
