10 month doesnt eat 3 meals

My baby 10 months old and some days goes the whole day without eating food. However usually he will have maybe one or two meals. It's really a hit or miss. Yesterday he only had breakfast and nothing else for the whole day. Even tried giving him ella kitchen puff which he likes he didn't eat them. Some days he will go the whole day with no food and only have dinner. At first I put it down to teething but it's been a consistent on going thing . Maybe by chance 2 days out of 7 days of the week he will have 3 meals that day but other days he doesn't .
Im worried as I keep reading other babies his age are having 3 meals plus snacks
Ive spoken to the health visitor in the past and they have put alot of pressure to feed him and requested to weigh him. I can't force him to eat. He usually has mushed food , fruit purees and finger foods of whatever I'm eating . It makes no difference if he doesn't want to eat he won't eat .

Are you spoon feeding or giving finger foods or both?

GrumpyHoonMain · 20/04/2021 14:16

You will need to reduce his milk right down and help him move more. Is he crawling / walking? If so get him out in the garden if you have one or in the park for 30 mins in the morning and again in the afternoon. Get him standing or movement toys that he can follow. Do both and it should hopefully encourage his appetite.

Should also add that as he’s only eating 1 meal a day make it count in terms of calories. Stay away from the Ella’s / pouches / plain fruit purees and start making him real porridge or weetabix with a cup of whole milk, 1 tbsp of peanut butter, and the fruit puree mixed in. Make a pot of it and keep offering it across the day. You could also puree it all and turn it into lollies to make it more fun.

You don’t offer breast until after a meal

I had to be firm with DS and cut out all daytime breastfeeds so he would eat. But he was 5 mo then. I can’t see how a 10 mo would be full on just breastmilk. Did the HV offer to refer to a pediatrician? If so get that arranged.

How much does he feed overnight? DD was dreadful for feeding to sleep and only settling with a boob overnight which meant she had little interest in solids during the day. I had to completely reverse that to get her eating proper meals but even then I'd say she generally ate a good breakfast, an ok lunch and by dinner time wasn't that interested so I gave her her main meal at lunchtime for a long time.

Hi
Thank you all for your responses . Im new on here so I don't know how to respond directly to each comment but I read them and since then cut down his daytime breastfeeds till after a meal so now he's only having 3-4 during the day and eating a decent amount of solids 3 times a day (both finger foods and mashed ) .
It was difficult at first because he was feeding all the time but within the past 2-3 days he seems to be gravitating more towards meals when hungry and not milk . He seems to only request milk when needing a nap or for comfort which I'm happy about as I know he's getting a balance
Once again thank you ladies
