Breakfast Ideas for Toddler that doesn't like Breakfast

Does anyone have any ideas for easy breakfasts for a toddler that won't eat toast/breakfast cereal/pancakes? They will currently pick at some dry star cereal/raisins/bits of fruit and just generally not really eat much at that time of day.

Banana, yoghurt. Split breakfast into 2 smaller meals over a couple of hours?

Scrambled egg / boiled eggs with soldiers? Mine love watermelon... porridge with blueberries and a chocolate button to make a bear face goes down well too

Have you tried protein options such as eggs or yogurt? All the things you mention are carby & probably quite beige. Or how about fruit & a drink of milk, & a piece of cheese.

Smoothie made with full fat milk?

My DD, now 3, has always eaten a more Mediterranean picky kind of breakfast, she likes cold meats, olives, cheese, fruit, cucumber, tomatoes, hummus etc... whatever I've got in the fridge. She still eats it now and turns her nose up at toast or cereal

I used to do a bit of a picnic breakfast for DD - breadsticks, raisins, slice of sandwich meat or crackers with butter on them, bit of fruit and snack cheese. I’d be in a rush getting ready for work so it’d be a bit thrown together but at least she’d eat something. When she started having breakfast at nursery she got back into toast and cereal

A toddler I looked after used to love a baked potato with cheese for breakfast, it only took a couple of minutes in the microwave.

Thanks for the suggestions! I was wondering about bits of sausage but it's not really healthy to do every day. I think picky bits might be the answer and maybe some more tempting fruit like strawberries. Trouble is cheese/meat/yoghurt are sure fire wins for the other meals so worry about duplication

Don’t worry about duplication too much, as long as you’re getting a reasonable amount of calories, protein, fats etc in, & not too much salt or added sugar, you don’t want to encourage a sweet tooth this young as it can be difficult to come back from. You can try adding more variety in alongside regular foods & if they eat it, great - if not, try again a few weeks later.

What time are you feeding breakfast? We do milk at 7.30, breakfast an hour later as his appetite is much better.

Full fat Greek/natural yoghurt and fruit.

Cheese sandwich.

Baked beans on toast or with eggs.

Definitely picky bits. Nuts a hit here - esp cashews, also quite soft.

My daughter requested cucumber sandwiches at 8am today, my son has had tomato soup before now too! We live in a 'strange breakfast household'

Kaiken · 08/04/2021 22:48

Since living in Japan, I often have soups for breakfast.
Sometimes my kids will too, especially when I have pumpkin soup.

I love MN because I would never share this with anyone in real life but I do "lazy susie" breakfasts and every time I do, I snigger that it is not lazy, it is actually labour intensive but I love the look on their faces!

Here it goes, a week in our lazy susie breakfast life:

Monday: I put different cereal in the lazy susie. Ds choose whichever they want. They then have their own little milk jug to pour their own milk into their mix-match of cereal.

Tuesday: I use cookie cutters to make different shapes of toast, put different spreads on and then put it in the lazy susie for them to select. I do sweet and savoury options.

Wednesday: i put different fruits in the lazy susie. They get a stick to make their own fruit kebab. I accompany this with yoghurt to dip.

Thursday: lazy susie help yourself cooked breakfast

Friday: lazy susie rainbow pancakes. I crush up blueberries and raspberries to make different colour ones.

Saturday: i cut up croissants into little pieces and have a selection of spreads in the lazy susie to choose from.

Sunday: breakfast toasties where they choose the fillings from the lazy susie.

Wow @spaceghetto that sounds amazing. I think I need a lazy Suzie, mine would love this!

Is your lovely toddler still having milk in the night? Is so, they may just not be hungry enough?
