Stupid question: when can you stop boiling water?

ds2 is breastfed and has just started solids aged 6 months, going nicely so far. I wanted to give a little water with meals (just to get him used to a cup). Do I need to boil the water? Can't remember what I did with ds1 (he went from breast to cup aged 11 months) but need to get ds2 off the breast a bit earlier (9-10months).

i think i waited til they were about 10mo but i am a bit too cautious cos my lot have a fantastic array of allergies and 'sensitive' tums. paranoid parent alert. someone else will prob give you a better answer but didn't want to leave thread unanswered!

I was going to wait till 1 year but saw little point when ds would pick things up off the floor and eat/lick them. I gave him tap water from there and tried to keep some good decent hygeine up everywhere to break him in gently!

no

micromummy · 08/11/2007 00:10

the picking things up off the floor thing was why I wondered if boiling water was really contributing much...a bit of dirt surely a good thing, she says hopefully?

you dont need to boil anything anymore.
you do need tobe as clean as possible obviously, but a little dirt never hurt, in fact a little dirt is important to help build immunity.

Seona1973 · 08/11/2007 12:26

tap water is fine from 6 months so no need to boil it now.

ruddynorah · 08/11/2007 12:30

tap water at 6 months no problem.

bramblina · 08/11/2007 21:58

Yes micro that's what I meant, and as pukka says will help build immunity for what is essentially quite a dirty world!

PavlovtheCat · 08/11/2007 21:59
