9 month old spitting out all food

I started weaning our daughter at 6 months, initially with puree but she was very clear that she did not want to be spoon fed so I quickly swapped to the blw route instead. As time has gone on she has definitely got more interested in food l, she plays with it and puts it in her mouth and chews. However, now she consistently spits everything out that is in her mouth. I'm trying to be relaxed about it, not putting any pressure on etc but I'm starting to worry about when she is actually going to start eating. She's not dropping any milk feeds. Has anyone been in this position? Any tips, advice or reassurance? Thanks

Show her how you chew and swallow. When you have completed a bite, open your mouth to show her that the food is no longer in your mouth.
Give her food one mouthful at a time. Get her to chew and swallow food before she gets her next bite. The next bite can serve as her "reward" swallowing.
Make it into a game. For example, you can sing a short song or a few letters of the alphabet while she chews. When you stop singing, she can swallow the food.

My DD3 is 8 month old.

She went through a few days of doing this recently and she also definitely prefers feeding herself with cooked veg, cheese etc. Rather than purées.

You haven’t said how long she’s done this for, if it’s only maybe a week or so I’d just say it’s a phase that she will pass. Eating together may help, not rushing mealtimes.
If this was me, I’d go down the route of just putting a small selection on her tray and then sit down and start eating my own tea and not really focussing on her much. If she is still having her milk then you knows she’s getting the nutrients. Good luck!

What are her nappies like? If they're the same as when she was just on milk then she's definitely not eating but if they've changed, she might be eating more than you think Smile

This is a great idea, thank you

It's a relatively new thing, a week or two but has become a bit of a habit. She devinitely swalllowed at breakfast though, hadn't had a feed overnight so my guess is that she was properly hungry..

Nappies are variable, sometimes more solid than purely milk. When I think about it this is really what I should be looking at in general to see what is and isn't going in!
