Weaning a 1yr old off bf who doesn’t like cows milk

...and eats like a horse.
Dd is just about to turn 14 months and i am still bf morning and night. She (and therefore i) have been dairy-free since 5 months but we are just coming to the end of the milk ladder successfully. She is now having real milk on her cereal in the morning.

Yay. However. She doesn’t like it. Hated yoghurt, now apparently hates milk. Will not even look at it in a cup. Fine with cheese or milk cooked in things.

Combine this with the fact she has an enormous appetite (often eats similar portions to her 5yr old sister, is constantly looking for snacks or taking the crusts/applecores from other people’s plates) makes me think she’s going to be difficult to settle at night without a “full” tummy, and i can’t just give her a cup of milk like i did her sister.

Has anyone been in this position? What did you do? If she had a normal appetite i’d just consider dinner 5pm) the last food before bed (7) but she feeds for nearly an hour at bedtime and i foresee her taking to weaning by screaming about her starvation.

She's not constantly chugging milk for an hour at bedtime, she'd explode! As long as she has a bit of something in her belly she'll get used to not having that last bf at night, and you can still enjoy bedtime cuddles and snuggles.

I hate milk. Can't stand it. Never have. Only exception is hot chocolate. If she's getting enough dairy through other means she'll be fine. Can you move teatime back a bit, or offer a snack before teeth brushing? Then just water in a sippy cup. Should see her through. If she's eating what you say during the day, the recommended total milk per day at 12m is 350-400ml max, and you can easily substitute the calorific/mineral/vitamins from that during the rest of the day

I've got CMPA and I've always hated the way milk makes me feel, she's probably just decided the same.

Could you try her with one of the fortified milk alternatives that are suitable for toddlers?

Maybe she is lactose intolerant?

Have you tried goat's milk? It has less lactose.
