Been having a slight disagreement with hv....

Baby (7m) has breakfast each day. Also bf bit as she has cmpa we are using a milk alternative in porridge. Hv says totally fine to use it IN food after 6m old.
BUT what we do is some days add 2-3 oz to make porridge and other days we put the 2-3 oz in a beaker as a drink and give something else like mashed banana but she’s saying we can’t give it as a drink?? Why not it’s the same amount of the same milk 🤦‍♀️

If its not being given as the main drink then i don't believe it makes much difference whether its in the cereal or in the cup when not having cereal.

She said it’s only ok IN food 🤦‍♀️ I think she’s taking advice very literally maybe

It's always been the advice that the ONLY things a baby should be given to drink in a cup or bottle prior to age 1 is water or formula/breast milk. So the HV isn't being difficult. It's to do with calorie and nutrition intake. The milk adds to the nutritional value of the porridge but the milk alone has far less value and may fill baby up. So breast milk or water in the cup before age one. Also hi to another breastfeeding mum with a cmpa baby!

It shouldn't be given as the main drink but an ounce or 2 in a cup isn't the main drink

It’s ok in the porridge because it’s the only thing available to make the porridge, though if you have breast milk in the freezer you could use that. It’s just worthless as a food on its own so there is no point in giving it on the days you don’t make porridge

I was hoping the taste of it would become familiar thorough porridge or as a small drink now so at 1 she can transition onto it as a main drink as the neocate we got for if she needs an alternative milk was totally rejected. It did smell horrible though

👋 Morning! Hope everyone is well. I have a question about weaning please? I had a terrible time weaning my now 9 year old. I have a 6 month old who thankfully loves food.
Not really sure how I should do it though?! My HV is useless unfortunately.
I started offering him mashed/pureed stuff at Christmas and now he generally has breakfast and one other meal.
He's had weetabix, baby rice, butternut squash, mashed tattie, blended green veggies and some smooth packets of mixed veg.
When can I move him up to 3 meals?! I think he would want them now.
Can I give him our meals yet? And if so, is there anything I should avoid?! (I have blended daal and cottage pie in the freezer.)
Does it matter if u give it to him before or after his bottle?
When can I move him to mashed foods and finger foods? Really concerned about him choking (pretty phobic actually as my daughter choked at 4 years and I left marks on her back dislodging it)
How long do you wait before making stuff even less mashed etc?
Thanks in advance 🤞
