My DS wont eat vegatables!! Its become a struggle getting him to eat any. I don't want to force feed him but he wont even try them! HEPL

Don't fret over it. He will no doubt go in phases.

We found the easiest way to get children to eat a wide variety of foods was to put it all in serving dishes and then let them choose, with no pressure on them. As they get older you can insist on one piece of brocolli, one carrot etc.

There is lots of research to say that if you offer, but not force, a wide variety of foods, over the course of a month or so, the child will choose a balanced diet all on their own.

How old is he? make a soup, blend it, add little pasta shape and lots of grated cheese.

MrsBadger · 26/10/2007 18:19

offer as finger foods?
most veg purees are frsnkly revolting

callmeovercautious · 26/10/2007 18:21

Tangas, how old is he? The age makes a difference in how you can deal with it.

Soup or pasta sauce. Actually both mine love veg, but only certain ones iyswim. They will eat anything pureed in a pasta sauce. You can also dice them and add them to things like shepherds pie and lasagne.

def offer as finger food then

Baby sweetcorn usually goes down well. At this age he's still getting most of his nourishment from milk, so don't worry. Just keep offering - he'll get there!

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 26/10/2007 20:17

Oh if he's only 6 months, don't mess about with them, he's only getting used to stuff.

Tangas · 26/10/2007 20:33

what should i do then Dragon- tonight for example, we tryed sweet potatoe. He just gaged, spat it out and pushed my hands away!! does this mean he dosn't like it. He does the same with peas white potatoes. should i just try other vegatables? or persiver with it??

Persevere. It doesn't matter how much he eats at this stage, he's just learning. his nutritional needs will be met by milk. Try one meal with veggies and one with something you know he'll eat to get a balance but if he doesn't eat, don't panic.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 26/10/2007 20:44

Put the veg in front of him (carrot sticks, little broccoli florets, cubes of potato) and let him get on with it. He might eat some or he may squidge it.

Have you looked at Aitch's BLW blog? It might give you some new ideas and a different approach. Didn't completely work for DD but she's a contrary little Dragon at the best of times.

Sazisi · 26/10/2007 21:43

if he eats purees, you could try making fruit and vegetable purees..eg apple/carrot, peas/pear, then gradually make them more vegetabley

Something I've resorted to in the past, which is probably very wrong, is giving a spoonful of fruit, then sneaking in a spoon of veg while they're all keen They all like vegetables now so doesn't seem to hve done any lasting harm

puppydavies · 26/10/2007 21:56

nothing wrong with making a veg/fruit mix, then the veg becomes more familiar. but i wouldn't stress it, babies are allowed to have preferences imo.

Tangas · 26/10/2007 22:20

Thanks sazisi.. i'll give that one a go..
