7month old possible reaction to dairy?

Hi hoping some mumsnetters might have experience with this. My baby just turned 7months old and has been getting on well with weaning for some time now. However I noticed the first time I have him yogurt, the plain Bio baby one (I think thats the right name) he got a number of spots on his cheeks and temples. He also has been teething on and off so wasnt sure if it was a coincidence and just teething related. Tried a little bit couple of times more, sometimes got the spots and sometimes nothing. I asked the nurse when he was getting his injections and she said since his formula wasnt dairy free, which he has been having without any reaction, then its probably fine but did admit she wasnt knowledgeable in that area.
So I've given him yogurt a couple of times again, no more spots but I've noticed he spits up a lot and it smells like curdled milk.
He appears in generally good form, although he is a little fussier and his sleep is all over the place despite having been excellent for the first 5/6months but that's every night not just when he has had dairy.
I'm a little paranoid as I'm coeliac and I'm worried he may have inherited it from me so I dont want to add in too much gluten until I'm sure he isnt finding dairy difficult to digest. Plus dairy is in so much stuff and is so beneficial to him I dont want to cut it out needlessly.
Any suggestions or am I just overly cautious?

I would say it's probably from the dribbling. If he has been fine with his formula then it's extremely unlikely that he has a dairy allergy. In terms of giving gluten and risk of allergy, the research now shows that the earlier you introduce allergens, the better and actually reduces the risk of an allergy occurring. Good luck

@nameisnotimportant thank you, you are probably right.
I want to give him more gluten as I definitely dont want him developing an intolerance but if it's been genetically passed down I dont think it matters when its introduced. I've been trying to get the common allergies out of the way first to be sure I'm not mistaking an allergy for coeliac disease. Most healthcare providers have been useless with advice and just told me to "be careful" with gluten but couldnt elaborate on that.

@babbafett yes you're correct, if it is genetic, then when you introduce it won't affect the outcome. The research does show that small amounts often, is usually the best way to introduce it. There is genetic testing available but I'm not sure if that is available on the Nhs.

Thank you I'll look into that. Frustrated as when I was pregnant my dietician said we could discuss weaning my baby onto gluten when the time came but current circumstances have made that impossible. Even trying to get phone support is tricky.

I also have coeliac and worry my 8 month old DD has inherited it! She had a similar reaction when I first introduced yogurt but she does fine with it now so I think it’s just their systems getting used to it. I read the earlier you introduce allergens the better so I give her something with gluten daily - if she did inherit coeliac, nothing I do will change the outcome anyway. I haven’t noticed any reactions to gluten yet but keeping an eye on it. I’ve also had no support with this so just winging it! At least I’d be able to spot the symptoms quick enough if there is a reaction.

My 3 year old has a dairy allergy and it presented almost immediately. I think the protein in formula would mean it would present in the first few months. That's just my understanding but fingers crossed for you!

Thank you both. That had reassured me. I didnt think I'd worry so much about weaning but with my food history I'm so cautious. I remember thinking it was extreme when I heard of people sitting in hospital carparks when they would introduce allergens for the 1st time, now I'm the one with the baby I can see their logic!

Oh hun! How are you getting on now? I’m in the same boat with my LO. Have you tried eliminating gluten and dairy for a while to see if that’s it? I’ve been trying my LO on homemade purees and allergen free porridge from Munch Free until I feel comfortable reintroducing x
