What do I do?
What do I give?

Have you read Aitch's blog? Best place to start, and also post your question in her forum (left hand column...). Good luck!

geordiemacmummy · 26/10/2007 21:20

My ds was born 4/5/07 too

liahgen · 26/10/2007 21:25

hey, what time, dd was 5.59am.
Are you weaning?

Hi liahgen - my little one is 6 mo soon too, and for the past month we've been letting him hold, suck and lick things he has tried to grab from us, plus he has had some baby rice and porridge but was not impressed !also new to blw because weaned first two dc at four months on purees, so checked out the blw forum just recently and its very helpful.Today he sat in his highchair and munched on a half banana, some marmite on toast, and sucked the insides out cherry tomatoes which he loves. For dinner I gave more banana, plus some broccoli and cauliflower and couldn't believe how stuck in he got !He just held them in his hand and shoved them in and kept chewing!Didn't cough or gag once, so we were all amazed, and so glad we have not bothered to mash and puree this time around !

liahgen · 26/10/2007 21:39

blimey, My lo can't sit unsupported, how do you manage in the highchair?

Bought an avocado today and a butternut squash. Shall I just roast it?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 26/10/2007 21:44

if she can't sit well in a highchair I wouldn't bother starting just yet...

chankins · 26/10/2007 21:44

He's a big lad ! Not sure about avocado, maybe mash it ?I would roast the squash and cut it into sticks, but haven't tried it on him yet.Need to go shopping to get more interesting things !Have a look at the food tips on Aitchs blog, there are loads of ideas for first things to try.

liahgen · 26/10/2007 21:46

Was just gonna slice the avocado.

Mrs badger, do you mean not bother starting at all then?

Shall I just let her have a bit if she's interested in what I'm eating, so long as it's suitable obviously?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 26/10/2007 21:51

I just couldn't see how one would blw if they couldn't sit in a highchair and pick things off the tray/table (I may be missing a vital point though)

chankins · 26/10/2007 21:54

You could sit her on your lap and let her try things if she is showing an interest ?Thats what I've been doing with ds from 5 mo, as he really wanted food then, well before then really, I feel I've been denying him it forever !But anyway, he sits quite happily and has a lick or a suck from whatever is going on. It is only today I have actually sat him in the high chair, at our meal time and put things in front of him to see what he would do.

geordiemacmummy · 26/10/2007 21:58

Ds was born at 13.00

We have been doing{{{{{whispers}}}}} baby rice and mashed veg, fruit and such like for a few weeks. He can sit unaided but we dont have a high-chair just yet (granny buying for xmas). He has a baby walker thing which has a removable tray, when giving him finger foods - brocolli, rice cakes, {{{{whispers again}}}}} a jaffa cake last night we put him in that.

I'm not doing BLW as such, a mixture of rice, pureed veg, yoghurt and finger food. It works for us. At the moment his favourite ff's are rice cakes - the big ones as he can gip them, and shred them over the floor really well. He loves his pureed fruit too, usally mixed in with porridge.

HTH

liahgen · 26/10/2007 22:09

Well, that makes sense as she can't sit up yet, she's only little. I'll let her lead then, sit her on my lap when I eat maybe.

thanks ladies. x

{{whispers too}} my ds has had a jaffa cake too ! He made short work of that. The looks I got at a toddler group though ! Very funny.

geordiemacmummy · 26/10/2007 22:22

I thought that he would just play with a little then throw it at the cat as he normally doe but oh no.... i was demolished within minutes.... covered from head to toe in chocolate - even in his ears

chankins · 26/10/2007 22:27

LOL - same here ! I probably shouldn't admit on here that he has also sucked the life out of the odd chocolate digestive, but when we're all munching biccies at a toddler group and he's trying to snatch it, and starting to cry, what can you do ?Everything in moderation I say.

geordiemacmummy · 26/10/2007 22:28

I know, I'm waiting for the food police to turn up at the front door any minute. No, I dont think a little taste of most things will do them any harm at all.

liahgen · 26/10/2007 22:41

lol at ur lo's covered in choc. My 1st child never had a choc button or juice or anything till she was at least 16mths old, number 2 and subsequent, Mmmm, erm, probably as late as 8mths, lol.

OP posts:
spottyshoes · 26/10/2007 23:00

PMSL at your jaffa cakes. Babyshoes had half a prawn cracker at a restaurant recently and loved it!! (Almost as much as the owner loved seeing him eat it).

Let the baby lead you. I'd let your dd sit on your knee and if she tries to pinch food off your plate then that would be a fairly good indication that she's ready. She wont try and eat it if she's not.

We've been BLW for about 4 weeks now and absolutely love it! Just relax, go with the flow and enjoy

AitchTwoOh · 26/10/2007 23:02

oh no, dd didn't have any chocolate at all until she was one. or so i thought, until i mentioned this to my dh and my mother and they exchanged A Look...

liahgen · 26/10/2007 23:40

lol
