7.5 month old just won't eat...

Just looking for some reassurance. Trying to wean DC2, but she has no interest in foodConfused we're spoon feeding and adding finger food rather than BLW. She is breastfed for her milk feeds.
She will not pick up food and put it in bed mouth. When I put a bit by her lips, she spits it out or sits with her mouth open and tongue out until it comes back out again...
She's barely swallowed anything at all since 6 months.
This is even with the logic of trying them with food when well rested and having had a milk feed.
Didn't have any of this with DC1!

Can anyone reassure me or share any anecdotes about their non interested in food babies please??

They might just not be ready.
Will they suck frozen foods, if you were to freeze up some fruit lollies or smoothie?
I'd not worry too much. Just put it out and let them explore the feel/smell etc.

Surely it would be more logical to try the food before a milk feed, so she's actually hungry? That's what our HV advised when we started weaning. That said, DS showed no real interest in solids until 8-9 months and he's fine now, so I wouldn't worry too much.

DS didn't eat properly until he was about 11 months old. That's not an exaggeration either. He was a spoon refuser but also had no interest in finger food so we were in no mans land for the longest time. Eventually we saw a paediatric Dietitican and she was WONDERFUL. The long and short of it is, offer them the food without pressure and they will decide when they want to eat it. So keep offering the spoon feeds, keep offering the finger foods and eventually she will eat, I promise you. I'm pg with DC2 and already dreading weaning as it was such a nightmare with DS1 but I do know that what they say is true, every baby eats eventually. You just have to give them the chance to do it their way. We never intended to do BLW (not traditional as we attempted purées) but that's where we ended up after realising the reason he was so upset was because he didn't want to be fed!! He wanted to do it himself. And now at 20m there's very little DS won't eat (funnily enough those things tend to be the mean green veg!)

Offer food before a feed

MsChatterbox · 24/12/2020 06:03

I feed my baby to sleep so offer food when she wakes up from naps as not super hungry but hungry enough and also well rested. But honestly I would just keep putting stuff on her tray and when she's ready she will eat. My baby is younger but for a while her hands stayed up in the air and she didn't touch anything. Then randomly last night she was picking up sausage mash and veg and bringing it to her mouth!

DC2 was like this until a similar age and then one day he just took to it and ate everything in sight!
I would just keep offering a mix at normal meal times and see how it goes

Peanut91 · 24/12/2020 06:11

My DS was exactly like this and then all of a sudden at about 9.5 months he just started eating anything and everything.

One tip I would give is don't spend anytime preparing something different or doing purees. It just makes it more frustrating when they then don't eat. Just offer them a little of what you are eating and then no worries if they don't eat it

DD was nearly 10 months before she took any interest in food. It used to worry me but had no impact on her going forward.i would let DC have a little of what you are having on their tray and let them watch you eating. They will soon get the idea
