Ideas for fruit & veg combo's

Ds2 is 6 months old and I've slowly been introducing fruit and veg over the past couple of weeks. So far he'll eat any fruit I give him,but clamps his mouth firmly shut at any veg heading his way.Have so far tried carrot, sweet potato, normal potato, swede, butternut squash, cauliflower and brocolli and now have a whole freezer full of cubes!
I have even tried the jars and dried packet veg and he won't touch them either.
Thought I may aswell try sticking some fruit in with the veg puree to see if that'll work but I can't think of many combinations to try.Have just made up some apple and sweet potato and some butternut squash and pear but now I'm stuck.
Any ideas please?
Thanks.

peas and parsnips was a favorite of my dd

Thanks but it's the veg he won't eat.Really looking for fruit and veg that go well together.

try not pureeing the veg, just cook it like you would have it, either boil, steam, roast or whatever, and see if he goes for it that way. as long as you don't add salt you'll be fine.

I'm not sure about which fruits and veg go together, but with my DS I didn't give him any fruit at all until he'd eaten a few different types of veg. He also prefers fruit but I still make sure he's eaten some veg before giving him fruit for pudding. If he doesn't eat dinner he doesn't get pudding (maybe I am mean!). He still drinks lots of milk so he won't go hungry.

But would agree with ruddynorah - my DS hated pureed brocolli, but when I gave it to him steamed and whole he sucked on it quite happily and enjoyed it.

Not sure about fruit and veg combos, but what about stirring in some cheese with the veg to make it creamier/sweeter? - assuming there are no dairy allergy issues for your DS.

With ds1 I gave him veg first and he ate everything I gave him and now still eats lots of fruit but funnily enough, not much veg.
Totally agree I should've tried him on veg first-have no idea why I did it the other way around.Probably because I had lots of fruit indoors at the time.
I'm a bit worried about giving him finger foods at the moment as he sometimes gags on a completely smooth baby cereal I give him breakfast time.I did give him a steamed carrot baton the other day but when he gummed it so much that it broke in half,I panicked he would choke and took it off him.

Spinach, parsnip and apple (or pear) is always a hit with my 7mth old.

stripeymama · 20/10/2007 20:07

Apples + lentils
Banana + avocado (I know, both fruit really)
Pear + parsnip
Dried apricots (soaked then pureed) + any veg as they taste really sweet
Beetroot + apple (beware pink poo)

Bubbaloo · 20/10/2007 21:05

Thanks for those. Not sure if I like the idea of pink poo though.

Well...he managed a couple of cubes of sweet potato and apple earlier today,so at least it seems to be working.

I used to add a soaked date to broccoli, made it just sweet enough that ds always ate it.

Pear or apple added to pretty much any veg will 'work' in theory too, your ds will have preferences of his own so try a few and see.

Apple, carrot and millet is a good one.

Also, apple, pea and spinach.

Another one my ds always liked was sweet potato, lentil and sultana.

Good luck!
