Worth buying a blender?

My baby is approaching weaning stage and I just wondered if it's worth buying a blender type machine for blending veg etc? If so please could people recommend one that isn't too pricey and is fairly easy to clean? Many thanks

Nope, life is too short for blending! Have a little look into baby led weaning which is basically just giving finger food from the start. Nice soft things like roasted sweet potato, avocado, fish, broccoli florets to start with, perfect for first tastes without blending.

If you are starting around six months you can get away with mashing food rather than making totally smooth purees. However, having said that, a stick blender is very useful for all sorts of jobs in the kitchen, for making food for baby and the whole family - making soup, smoothies, sauces etc. I would get one where you can detach the blender part from the handle with the plug attached as it makes washing them a lot easier.

A special baby food one is a total waste of money. You can get a hand blender for £5-10, which does the job and is useful to have in the kitchen anyway. It depends how much puree you plan on using.

With DC1 we made loads because it was easier to defrost a few ice cubes of mush, then make something he would eat (DH and I tend to eat later when he gets in form work). We did BLW with DC2, because we were cooking for DC1 anyway so it was easier to just make double, plus his food tends make better finger food.

I got the cheapest one Argos do which is just a hand blender for DD when I weaned her and that was fine; we moved on from blending things quite quickly. With my second baby I’ve done baby led weaning and not used the blender at all.
