Oat milk or introduce formula for cooking with....?

Advice appreciated..

DS has CMPA and is breastfed & introducing solids. Having been using breastmilk prepping his food but pumping is proving time consuming... is using oat/coconut milk every day ok with the additives or should I consider introducing special formula little Aptamil Pepti just for the cooking?

Thanks

The specialist formula is too expensive to use just for food especially as it only keeps for a few weeks before you need to throw it away. Have you to avoid soya milk too? Avoid rice milk if you do use an alternative as its not advised under age 5

I give pat milk daily to dd(10m) but you can get them without processed sdditves if you prefer. Eg the rude health one uses only natural ingredients but it is expensive

I'm think my friend used a small amount of Oatly for hers at that age. Breastfed til she turned one then switched to soya milk for drinking and cooking with.

I cook with oat milk for DS, and have ever since weaning. It works really well in most recipes, especially if you can get the barista version (grey Oatley carton) as it has a higher fat content (more like semi skimmed that skimmed).

Take advice from your GP or Health Visitor on introducing soya to a baby with CMPA. I was advice by a paediatric dietician who was supervising my son's dairy elimination that a young body cannot differentiate between the similar proteins and can react to soya in the same way they react to dairy.

It's absolutely fine to use plant-based milk in cooking and with food. Nutritionally, in terms of fat content and added vitamins etc, the best is Alpro Growing Up Milk (If baby tolerates soya), the next best is Koko Super and then Oatly Barista.

Special formula is really unpleasant IME and would render most food inedible! (DS had Nutramigen prescribed 🤢, offered it to him twice before I gave up!)
Oatly Barista is good. It’s nice and thick, and higher in fat. If you can give soya then Alpro growing up milk is good but quite sweet for cooking.
Interestingly DS tolerated dairy in foods a lot better than as a drink (still avoid giving him a glass of milk at 2 but can have anything else) so it’s worth talking to your GP or dietician about when to start on the milk ladder.

Can you find out if your DC will tolerate goat or sheep milk?

Thanks each of you for your replies, huge help!

@NameChange30 Brilliant blog thanks for link....have also eliminated dairy from my diet and useful info here for me too

@PolarBearStrength eek yeah i’d read the taste leaves a bit to be desired so DS has had a lucky escape there....!
