Can anyone give me ideas for what to offer 11 1/2 month old for lunch. Am now off the jars apart from yogurts, breakfast cereal the odd time but as far as lunch goes. Have offered sandwiches with ham, tuna, yogurt, banana but not sure what else cold foods to give.

pasta (warm or cold)

Salad (chunks/sticks of carrot, cucumber, celery, cherry toms, cubes of cheese, cut up ham etc)

Houmous and veg dippers

Yes will buy the houmous next time in supermarket. Is the cucumber, celery etc. not too hard?

avacado
sausage
quiche
slices of ham, chicken, beef etc
pre cooked and cooled potato wedges
omelette (cooled and cut into squares)
use tortilla wraps instead of bread to make a wrap instead of a sandwich.
rice cakes
courgette fritters
chickpea burgers
mini pizzas
bread sticks and cheese

When my DS was that age, he absolutely loved cucumber (no skin) - it was lovely and cool through teething and soft enough to suck/ gum chew on. He still loves it now and he is 2.3. Not sure about celery, my DS didn't like it much.

Now that it's getting colder, you could also try soup(very messy) and pita bread

nappyaddict · 12/10/2007 15:23

also my ds loves rice with sweetcorn and peas in it.

thought of some more:

fish cakes
chicken goujons
potato cakes
hash browns
waffles
pumpkin wedges
quesadillas
kedgeree
chicken kievs
chicken with pesto
lentil and carrot cakes
turkey twizzlers
cheese, leek and broccoli muffins (got the recipe for the last 2 off aitch's blog

Thank you nappyaddict. You have given some good ideas. Actually just bought houmous today, have never tried it myself, it is lovely. Not sure if DD liked it though. Have also tried mini pitta pockets from Marks. Grated cheese was a bit messy. Finger foods just seem to be dropped down the highchair or onto the floor.

omelette cut in to finger strips is great
you can have so many different things in it - cheese, tomato, fish, peas, etc etc

minestrone soup si also a good one - make it very chunky and thick - then its easier for them to try to spoon in themselves

think aobut waht you have yourself - try to give the same to dd - makes life easier!

i used to make mashed potato and add different things to it - little flakes of fish, like lemon sole (doesnt ever contain bones), tinned tuna, soft chicken, mince, peas, sweetcorn, onion gravy, salsa, etc etc etc etc

rice is a good one - try thai sticky rice as its easier if dd wants to feed herself. add simple things like small cubes of vegetables, even spices - youd be surprised as to the spices and herbs your dd would like

i loved weaning - seeing their little faces as they tried new tastes and texture was hilarious
