Is it ok to feed babies mostly from jars?

I have 8 month old triplets. When I was pregnant I had this image of myself breast feeding, only ever giving my babies home made foods, cloth nappies etc etc... HAHAHA. Needless to say, none of this has worked out and everything in my life is now based purely on convenience!

Since the babies were born DH and I are mainly living off ready meals and takeaways, so BLW wouldn't really work or be sensible for us (plus the mess x3, and what if more than one of them started choking). So they are now eating porridge or yogurt with fruit for breakfast, and a savoury jar (sometimes followed by a dessert pot thing) at lunch time. Sometimes around 5pm I'll offer them some sort of finger food like some carrot batons, tenderstem broccoli, toast or sweet potato wedges.

Is this ok? I feel like a terrible mother when I think about the additives that must be in these jars. But I barely have time to brush my hair, never mind cook Blush

Finger food can also be your saviour - everyone sitting in the same place at the same time won’t be happening for much longer. My dc were frequent gaggers at the start but I built up my confidence through very soft overcooked veg and tiny soup pasta.

It sounds like you're doing amazing!

TiggeryBear · 13/10/2020 09:38

You're doing fantastically! I take my hat off to you! I really do. Triplets?! I thought 1 was bad enough! Do not beat yourself up for doing whatever it takes to get through each day. Both of my DC were fed jars / pouches etc in a similar way to what you've described. Aged 4 & 2 now they're fantastic eaters.

You have TRIPLETS. You are not a terrible mother, you’re a superhero! I too wanted to feed my babies all home cooked purées, bought all the make your own pouches etc blah blah blah but ended up feeding them a mix of pouches/jars/some home cooked stuff too when there was time to make it and they were agreeable to eat it and I only have twins!

Ultimately, it was all pointless - since DD tasted her first chip she’ll only eat beige (she has an egg allergy which took a while to be diagnosed) and we stick to a DD approved menu with some new bits chucked in that she mainly doesn’t try.

Do what you need to do to survive! You’re doing great 😃

I have twins so hats off to you with triplets. I weaned them completely on jars and pouches and they're fine 👍

squeekums · 13/10/2020 09:54

No guilt, dd is 10 and healthy
Your doing well, you have triplets ffs

GreyishDays · 13/10/2020 09:56

I only had 1 and used jars! He is 5 and thriving so I wouldn't worry.

You have triplets- you are a super woman!!!!

anonnancy · 30/10/2020 12:31

I take my hat off to you, I find it hard to find the time to cook with just 1 DS... never mind 3!

My DS has a lot of jars / pouches for lunch as it’s just more convenient.... and I’m lazy! He seems fine.

Totally get the mum guilt tho. But I’m
Pretty sure I was spoon fed jars as a baby and I
Am fine and have a huge appetitr 😂

This is similar to the bf v ff debate. You can’t get which babies were bf, ff, home made or jars and pouches.

My DC’s were ff and almost totally given jars. They grew up perfectly healthy and no different from their friends who may have been bf and home made from scratch food.

letsmaketea · 30/10/2020 13:33

I got as far as ' 8 month old triplets' - do whatever you need to do to survive! They will be fine.

Crinklestar · 30/10/2020 13:49

Do what you need. I had twins and they had more jars and pouches than homemade food. The priority was getting them fed in an appropriate way. Jars are fine. I didn't have time to prepare everything from scratch. I had a toddler at the time too. Did BLW with him, and now, five years later, there's no real difference in their eating habits. One twin and singleton are a bit fussy, other twin will eat absolutely anything.

Keep yourself sane. It's so important.
