Butter or margerine for babies?

my HV said to try toast as a finger food for DS. He seems to like toast. i brought some organic butter, however am now worried that it is not unsalted. is there a safe spread that is suitable for babies which anyone uses?

I really wouldn't worry too much about the salt content. All spreads have salt in (apart from unsalted butter of course!). How old is he?

If there's a choice I would go for butter.

I did with my ds and, let's face it, these 'spreads' weren't really around when we were babies and we turned out okay!

Unsalted butter would be best, I think, even if it's not organic. Or some health food shops do a fruit spread which is no added suagr etc which DS liked when he was at that stage.

I gave mine organic unsalted butter, and used it in cooking for them too until they were 1. Although I suspect that if the rest of your DS's diet is salt-free, it doesn't matter terribly as the quantities will be tiny.
