7mo drinking goat's milk - yes or no

I know that bm or formula should not be relpaced with ordinary milk at this stage. Is this because ordinary milk is actively harmful, or because it just doesn't have all the good stuff in it?

I would like to give my 7mo dd a small (4 oz?) drink of goat's milk at bedtime, after her b/f. I do NOT intend to cut out any b/f. It's just that she seems really frustrated at the amount of bm on offer at that stage of the day, and my supply doesn't seem to change. I don't want to give formula, because there is a great deal of athsma and excema in the family. So can a small, supplementary drink of goat's milk hurt?

Oh Mears, thanks - that might work. I really think she is starting a general nursing strike - it is now getting hard to keep her focused during the day, as well as at bedtime. I am trying to keep her away from distractions such as the telly, siblings etc, and I am thinking of turning off the lights when we have our bedtime feed.

She is very taken with solids, i must say - esp since I gathered up my courage and gave her REAL FOOD - and I think bf is suffering as a result. I will definitiely cut out water at mealtimes.

I gave my DD normal goat's milk to drink alongside breastfeeding from about 8 months. She had between 6-10 oz a day I think. She was intolerant to cows milk, but was absolutely fine with goat's milk.

I have no idea what the guidelines are, am certainly not an expert, but I wanted to give her extra milk at this time (aside from breastmilk) and the goats milk was a good alternative for us. Personally, I felt that just a few ounces a day would certainly do no harm. I was delighted to find an alternative to cows milk, which made her skin flare up terribly.

Celery, My mum and brother have terrible excema and reckon cow's milk makes it flare up, and goat's milk not. Another reason for cow's milk being outside my comfort zone.

I never gave milk as a drink after my first DS got terrible colic with it at 1 year. After a year my children had water or juice to drink (no holes in teeth) and only one of my 4 children had milk because he liked it. As long as children are getting enough dairy (or calcium etc) in food, I don't think there is a need to give milk as a separate drink. The recommended pint a day can easily be given in foods.

Just a thought about milk drinks which are over rated i think.
