Stopping breastfeeding at 15 months

Hello all
My DS is just coming up to 15 months and I feel as though now is the time I’d like to stop breastfeeding him. I never expected to go this long so I feel very proud of myself!

He currently only feeds once a day; before bed but isn’t fed to sleep. Hopefully because of this I won’t experience huge levels of discomfort as my body has adapted to that one little feed.
I wondered whether I should offer him cows milk in a cup before bed once I’ve stopped? He’ll drink plenty of water from a cup but he’ll generally only take a few sips of milk when it’s offered. I don’t want him waking up peckish in the night if he doesn’t have anything before bed even though he has 3 meals and a few snacks in the day!
Any tips? X

I just finished feeding my DS at the same age; he decided he didn't want to feed anymore, and as I'm going back to work it seemed like a good time. I didn't have any physical discomfort at all (like you, he was only feeding once a day).

We did try to offer him cow's milk, but he rarely drinks more than a sip or two. Is your DS a good eater? Mine hasn't woken up hungry at all. By this stage, as long as he's getting enough actual food, he shouldn't be hungry.

Good luck!

I did with my eldest. I stopped at 14 months as I was pregnant and offered him a beaker of cow's milk at bedtime instead. He was fine, and I had no ill effects with stopping as I was only feeding him at bedtime by that point.

I did the same a month or so ago at 15months. I got my partner to put the baby to bed for a few nights and gave the baby a cup of milk. He wasn’t really into the milk TBH so now we just put him to bed with night garden / a book and no milk. My boobs hurt for a few days but nothing too bad.

Thanks for your replies ladies, much appreciated.
I think I’ll try it over the weekend so if he does happen to be unsettled in the night at least I haven’t got to deal with work the next day!
