Planning to wait until 6 months if I can - DS is almost 5 months now.

crokky · 05/10/2007 10:03

I waited until 6 months. Then the foods you can give are far less restricted and you save yourself additional work preparing food, when baby will be fine with milk (between 4-6 months).

VooJu · 05/10/2007 10:03

Weaned DS1 now age 7 (FF) at 16 weeks

Weaned DS2 now age 5 (BF) at 20 weeks

In line with advice at the time.

nimnom · 05/10/2007 10:07

Ds1 (now 5) weaned at 14 weeks,ds2(now2) weaned at 13½ weeks. First time round hv ticked me off and said was too early , but at the time the advice was 16 weeks and ds1 had suddenly started waking up after sleeping through from 6 weeks. With ds2 hv was really supportive and said I should go with instincts even though the advice had changed to 6 months.

My heartfelt advice is not to introduce solids before 6 months although I am aware this may irritate some posters. This is current guidelines and as you are bfing shouldn't be a problem.

HumptyDumptyWasPushed · 05/10/2007 10:11

dd is 21 weeks and exclusively bf. Planning on waiting till at least 26 weeks but will start when she's ready.

Lulumama · 05/10/2007 10:19

20 weeks for DS as per advice at the time, he is 8 .

and DD was just shy of 26 weeks, by a few days, as per current advice, she is 2

Seona1973 · 05/10/2007 19:54

dd (almost 4) was 16 weeks as per guidelines but in hindsight she could have gone with milk for a bit longer. dd (1) was weaned at 5 1/2 months so not far off 6 months

beautifuldays · 05/10/2007 19:59

ds at 5 months
dd at 6.5 months

TheBlonde · 05/10/2007 20:02

24 weeks with both of mine

DD did get an earlier taste of some yog/choc thing courtesy of a friend's MIL

hunkermunker · 08/10/2007 01:59

DS1 - 26 weeks (he's 3.6 and it was current advice).

DS2 - 27+3 because it was boiling hot and I didn't want to give him anything that might interfere with his fluid balance when it was SO hot (he's 20mo).

OverRated · 08/10/2007 02:20

Do you mean when you give them solids or wean them off BF/ formula?

DS started eating real food (in addition to BF) at 6 months.

Exclusively BF ti l6 months then gradually introduced solids. No cow's milk til 1 yr.

Still BF now at 15 months.

NoBiggy · 08/10/2007 07:29

23 weeks for DD1.

25 - 26 weeks for DD2.

Anyone that says babies can't survive that long on BM alone is clearly talking out of their hat (yes HV,s, this means you!)

massivebigpumpkinface · 08/10/2007 07:33

25 wks, would have been longer but wanted to get the ball rolling before I went back to work.

harpsicorpsecarrier · 08/10/2007 07:51

six months, although tbh dd2 wasn't ileast interested until at least 7/8 months - like Cali's dc more interested in milk!

lomondgal · 08/10/2007 07:55

DD1 was six months and planning to wait until then for DD2 as well. DD2 is nearly 16 weeks and has started waking up a few times hungry during the night but I am quite happy to increase her milk feeds until then, if that means a night feed so be it

GogoTheSmall · 08/10/2007 09:11

Started at 26 weeks. If I didn't know about the 5 month growth spurt I might have started earlier, as she was so damn hungry all the time and started night waking again. I can see why some people might misunderstand that stage as meaning milk isn't enough any more, it really did seem like that. So glad we stuck it out though, it all settled again after a couple of weeks and I realised that there was nothing inadequate about my bm after all!

Now she's 29 weeks, waking once for a quick night feed, and really loving BLW (not much going in yet though!)

bobsmum · 08/10/2007 09:16

DS 5.5 months (now 5)
DD 6 months (now 2.3)

I thought the WHO guidelines had been around for well over 10 years

Jojay · 08/10/2007 09:18

25 weeks, so we could get a bit of practice in before I went back to work, and ds went to a childminder at 26 weeks.

It wasn't difficult to get ds to wait to 6 months - he was very happy on milk alone, though he was on hungry baby formula at that stage.

muppetgirl · 08/10/2007 09:20

Ds 1 15 weeks - he led
Ds 2 (yet to be born currently 36 weeks prgt)
Will wait till he shows signs as I did his brother.

The guildines have changed in between my babies but I will follow their lead.

spookykitty · 08/10/2007 09:32

around 6 months for both
