My 9month old will only eat dry finger food

My nearly 9month old will not feed herself wet/sticky finger food. So if she is given bread with something spread on it or fruit she wont touch it but will eat it if I hold it for her. If she is given dry bread/toast or bread sticks she gobbles them up herself.

She eats well otherwise and is eating cut up food otherwise rather than mashed or pureed meals.

Has anyone elses dc done this?

My DS is more likely to eat something if I'm eating it at the same time (making lots of "000h niceee" noises. So maybe if your DD see's you eating (and enjoying) sticky food, she will sense that its ok to get messy.

Good luck, before long she'll be decorating your kitchen with sticky food!

Thanks mozzy- We eat the same stuff most of the time and dd and ds pretty much always do so she can watch us both stuffing our faces!

Got her to stick her hands in her breakfast to see if it was that she didnt like the feel of it and she loved getting handfuls of wheetabix all over her!

Same problem here DragonH, with 8.5 month old DS. Think it's that the "wet" food is too slippery to hold very well, or at least that seems to be the problem with him. He loves naan/pitta bread sticks etc but can't get the hang of fruit and veg sticks. Have tried leaving on a bit of skin e.g. on a banana, to give a dry surface to hold, but he then doesn't get which bit is edible and which isn't! Sorry, don't have the answer but thought I'd show a bit of solidarity! x

She ate some pear today! All by herself!

She was so pleased with herself!

So now we have breadsticks and pear (she has stopped eating dry bread now too! ).

Oh and thanks Jack x
