cups - advice please! i'm off shopping this afternoon!

DS 6 months on Thursday. started BLW this past weekend. realised he probably needs to start drinking water - but from what? any suggestions - both of what to get, and what NOT to get?
Doidy cup?
Sippy cup?
Some other kind of cup I've never heard of?

We have a variety of cups, we started with a tommee tipee, the one where the spout folds down, but we've had more luck with the type with a straw. We got one in Poundland with a Garfield design. There's a type with a valve in the straw and that doesn't work so well (can't get a drink if the cup is turned sideways). If you have an instore nearby we got a bottle there which is handy to take out. Has a pop-up straw and a strap (hangs over pushchair handles). Woolies have similar.

Oh yes, and we started with a just a little open cup and a tiny bit of water. That worked for a very short time, until DD insisted on holding it and flinging the contents.

any cheapo spouted cup. not with a no spill valve. wilkinsons do 5 for £2 ish.

Ikea do 6 cups for 99p. Little open ones. Good toys too!!!

doidy cup (or any plastic open cup as will be helping him in the early days)
some cheap spouted cups as ruddy norah says for trips out etc.
water bottles with sports tops are good if you are out and about

definitely not non spill you need the suck of a dyson to get anything out of those buggers

I use tommee tipppee first cup for my ds and dd. Great ones to start with and so handy to travel with.

Later I used Avent Magic cups when ds started to think it was fun to shake it everywhere. They have lots of bits though so a bit fiddly.

Tried tip it up cup for dd and it is CRAP. Dont try it.

I would def stick with free flowing ones to start with.

We also went for tommee tippee first cups and avent cups. DS also has a cow cup for his milk which I got from Morrisons/Boots.

Got him a tommee tippee first cup in the end. Thought about a doidy cup as well, but will see if I can borrow one (too much plastic in the world)

The tommee tippee was a great success at tea last night! In fact was enjoyed more than any of the food (cup used to batter the food into mush on the table!)

When ds was ready, I used the cup without the lid on. Saves you getting another trainer cup.
