Weaning - Help!

So, my DS is 5 months on the 7th July. Recently he has started to become increasingly unsettled at night, and not so interested in his milk. But always interested in what I'm eating, reaching out, crying etc.

I have made the decision today to give him some porridge, which he did really well with. But I now have no idea how to proceed. Do I only offer porridge once a day? I know for a fact he will now want this at least a few times a day. He's a big baby FYI, over 75th percentile. Now he's got a taste I won't be able to stop him Smile

Also, can I feed solids first, and then let him wash it down with a half feed? We did this today, and it worked well for him.

I'm really not sure what to do, I'm a very cautious anxious mum. And I'm looking for other people's experiences!

at that age I wouldn't give more than once a day. And milk should be given first so that food does not replace milk.

Maybe talk to your health visitor as it seems it bit early given that he isn't actually even 5 months old let alone close to 6!

My LO isn't interested in reaching for my plate yet but I'm not sure what I'll do yet if she does before 6 months. She's more interested in trying to get things that are further away and require me getting up so she can have a look.

Thank you! Going to keep going with the breakfast routine. And then move to some purées for lunch in a few weeks time.

Yeah, I did message my midwife; who had worked in many different fields about it today as many people can't get ahold of a health Vistor including me at the minute.

Yeah he's about a week off being 5 months. Smile

I guess all babies just develop differently.
My DS has cracked rolling over, and can now sit unaided for a little time on his own. Only around 10-15 seconds. He's just such a strong little character!

Hi!

My little boy is a few weeks older and he's been having a few first tastes at lunch. We're doing a blend of traditional and BLW so he has a banana put in front of him and maybe a blended/mushed piece of veg. He's just dropped his lunch time bottle.

About to start with "tea" but my HV said even after a few days they may be ready for the second meal. Personally we feed him in between bottles as that works for our routine. He has a midmorning bottle at 10am and then lunch at 12, then mid afternoon bottle after his nap around 3/3.30 ish.

Good luck :)
