Introducing nuts - help please

So my little one is going to be 9 months this weekend and as yet, I still havent introduced nuts to her diet!
I'm getting myself into a spin about it now, to the point I'm too scared to do it as I've read that the later you leave it, the higher the chance of there being a reaction, and I've convinced myself I've caused a problem and that she will be allergic.
I just dont know where to go from here! Any help or advice would be appreciated 🙏
I bought a jar of smooth peanut butter to put on toast for her, but chickened out. Also keen to let her try a little pesto 🤷‍♀️
The only thing I've inadvertently done was rub some coconut oil on her head to help with dry skin, although not sure that would be an indicator since it wasnt eaten.

Coconut isn't a nut. We just did toast with peanut butter. Are there allergies in the family?

dementedpixie · 25/06/2020 22:26

is pesto not pine nuts which are seeds, not nuts

dementedpixie · 25/06/2020 22:27

maybe put a little on her skin first if you're really worried. We don't have allergies so didn't really worry about giving nuts.

DS is 6 mo. I tried him with a tiny fingertip of peanut butter first, while DH had his phone ready to call 999 / GP if needed. Then I made a ‘milk’ of walnuts and almonds (seperately) and tried these the same way. For sesame I tried him with a fingertip of shop bought hummus. You are basically looking for a rash / hives / anaphalaxis but as my DS is breastfed and doesn’t have any allergies, he’s considered v low risk.

LittleLadysMama · 25/06/2020 22:37

So clearly I dont know my nuts from my seeds 🤦‍♀️

I added a spoonful of peanut butter to DS' porridge; I figured it was best to do it early in the day in case something happened. Now it's one of his favourites! The chances of anything happening are really low.

LittleLadysMama · 25/06/2020 22:39

That's what's making me panic, I keep reading posts where people say they had 999 on speed dial for it which makes me keep delaying doing it 🤷‍♀️
She loves hummous!

Try a skin test first if you are that woried.

If skin seems fine then rub a tiny bit on her lip and watch for a reaction.

Is there a history of allergies?

We just started with a tiny smear on a rice cake and he was fine.

There are literally hundreds of things they could be allergic too... Soy, nuts, eggs, strawberries,shellfish... But if you checked the back of packets most kids have had most of them without knowing.

Anaphylactic reactions get.worsr over time... So it's VERY unlikely that your baby will have a serious reaction the first time she encountered an allergen... She is likely to show a milder reaction first few times such as a rash or swollen face/eyes... It would be very obvious and would alert you to an issue.

LittleLadysMama · 25/06/2020 22:39

That's a good idea! Might give that a try at the weekend when I've got DH here for support!

No food allergies that I'm aware of.
She does love hummous on a rice cake so might try that with PB instead. Thanks

I fed my dts curry with almond butter in. I had forgot about the almond butter and only realised when they started eating. They were about 8mths at the time. No issues so am thinking on trying them with almond butter on some oatcakes. Ds never got nuts at all and hes 6 now. Wont eat them or butters. Which is shit cos they are full of fats and cals which he needs at the min.
