Hi

At the moment DC2 has 7oz morning bottle between 6.30-7am. I then try her with some breakfast at around 8-8.30 but she’ll literally only have one mouthful. Should I try it later on, say 9am, so she is more hungry?

Thanks ladies x

How old is she? If it’s convenient with your other children then put her in the high chair with some toast if not then skip breakfast for a bit.

Thanks. She’s just over 6 months. My eldest has breakfast at 8 am (on the dot, she watches the clock 🙄) so ideally I’d like us to eat together.

I must admit I’m terrified of starting any kind of BLW, eg toast, because of the choking risk even I’ve watched the first aid videos.

X

If you are doing traditional weaning (purées and fingers foods) then you start 3 meals a day after 9 months. 6 months is still very young so she will just be exploring not eating. Food should be given 30 mins to an hour after milk.

Finger gods are scary but they really need them a few weeks after they have started purées (assuming you’ve waited until 6 months) so they start to develop the muscles needed to speech.

There’s lots of things she can be doing if you don’t want to start full on weaning yet or if she’s not that fussed. Whenever you’re eating, sit her in the high chair. If you want to give her food, do that; if not, give her a sippy cup of water/milk or a toy or a spoon to play with. As well as eating she has lots of motor skills to learn, so it’s all progress Grin

Particularly with my second, I found I didn’t want the hassle of additional meal times. You can literally spend your whole day feeding people! As she gets more interested/starts to reach for your toast etc, up the food you give her.

Give her a 4oz bottle at 7am and then have the other 3oz with breakfast at 8.

Mine has first bottle at 8 and breakie about 9.30. Always has.

I always found breakfast the most difficult to fit in around all the other timings and things happening first thing (nappies, coffee, clothes, other breakfast etc) so introduced lunch first, then dinner, then finally breakfast when the baby was clearly wanting it (ie I couldn't fight them off my toast any longer!)
